Win7 64 bit. Latest version of Norton Internet Security (update page says I have the latest).
Recently I have had problems where Live Update gets an error and fails to install all updates. It is accompanied by a suggestion that I use the Intelligent Updater to download the latest updates. Intelligent Updater runs and says it updated everything successfully.
System works okay for a few days, and the Live Update starts failing again and I have to download the large Intelligent Updater file again. Have gone through this cycle 4 or 5 time by now.
When Live Update has a problem and can't install all updates, please wait a little while and then try again. I get those error codes also sometimes with my Win 7 64 bit. Sometimes it takes trying live update several tries, but they do get installed eventually without having to use intelligent updater or reinstalling the program(s). Sometimes it just helps to reboot also and then try live update again. Sometimes the servers get bogged down and it takes a little longer to get them especially if other computer background activies are going on at the same time. Sometimes it's just a first come, first served basis so to speak. Thanks.
Please verify your system clock is correct as far as date, time and time zone are concerned. Is it possible it could be losing time over a period of a few days?
You could try Support >Get Support and see if it finds any errors or fixes anything.
Hate to say it but the reinstall may be the only answer, but I would wait as flo suggested before I did the reinstall.
Thanks especially for the suggestion that I retry over a period of days.
I just had a case where LU wanted to download 200MB of updates. I cancelled it and tried again the next day. It then downloaded and successfully installed a much smaller update.
What's strange is that I've been a NAV user for many years, and I've never encountered LU update problems like this before. Perhaps Symantec needs to beef up their servers?

I've had a nearly identical NAV problem on both of my PCs now for 6 months. The Incremental Virus Definition X64 update file downloads successfully, but the installation fails. This triggers a 200+MB Full Virus Definition X64 file download/installation. This can happen once/week, and it can happen several times/day. It is very random.
Unfortunately, 6 months of troubleshooting has been completely unsuccessful at solving this problem. I am no closer to a solution today than when I first identified this problem last November.
Prior to last November, never a problem with either of my PCs.
That's quite a thread you pointed me to. I've not read all the way through it, but your problems sound similar. At least I believe that it is not worth my time to try the Norton Removal tool.
One difference from your situation is that my computer runs 24/7 with no hibernate or sleep.
Hi, hspindel. My computer is always shut down at the end of the day, and the number of times I've had problems with Live Update, I can count on one hand, without even using my thumb !
Coincidence ? Who knows ? I DO know that a daily reboot never hurt any computer..............
Edit--- Assuming that DD has exonerated all other causes and programs, could it be time and zone related ?
I'm in Australia and as I said, Live Update problems for me are very rare.

Hello, I am having the same problem.I alway use manual live update but when automatic live update runs and there is a virus definition to update it fails and then a complete new set is downloaded on the next run of manual live update. Automatic update in tasks shows it was canceled and the run time is from when my computer went to sleep until I turned it on again.Looking back this has happened in Dec, Feb, March and April. Could have happened in Jan too but I did not see it in the log and I use Manual liveupdate all the time. Just figured out this was happening on 4-17-14 I have no other anti-virus stuff on my computer and never have.
I am not sure if I should do anything or wait it out? Any help would be appreciate! (Thank you Dubble_D for typing out all the info)
1) The Incremental Norton Smart Virus Definition X64 file installation failures occur most often, but not always, during Automatic Live Update.
3) When the Incremental Norton Smart Virus Definition X64 fileis not included in the Automatic Live Update (Example - Automatic Live Update downloads Reputation Revocation List, Safe Web Statistics, and IPS Definitions only) Automatic Live Update is nearly 100% successful!
4) Manual Live Update seems to be more effective at installing the Incremental Norton Smart Virus Definition X64 file than
Automatic Live Update.
5) Following the Incremental Norton Smart Virus Definition X64 file installation failures (in NAV Versions 21.1.0.18 and 21.2.0.38) Live Update downloads/installs the Norton Smart Virus Definition X64 file full (203+MB). This can happen daily
