Live updates

hello,

live updates not working properly this morning for me also, on windows 7.

 thank you

Hi jeffron,

Welcome to the Norton Community. What version of WIndows and SP (service pack) do you have and is it 32 or 64 bit?

What version of NIS do you currently have? You can find this from Support > About.

When exactly did you install NIS 2011? Did you install from a CD or did you download NIS on the Internet and if so, from which link?

Do you have any other security software installed on your computer along with NIS or while attempting to install your NIS ? Any other security software with a real-time component must be uninstalled and run a removal tool provided by the vendor of the other software before attempting to install your Norton security software. Attempting to install your Norton product in the presence of other security software may not allow proper installation of Norton or may result in problems later on.

Also, what type of home network do you have? And do you use a proxy server? If you use IE, double check in Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab and see if there is anything configured for proxy server.

Are you able to run Live Update manually?

Best wishes.

Allen

Hi Calls,

I'm in the Southeast USA and everything liveupdate wise is Ok at my end.

Did you reboot a couple of times and try some manual updating?

Ed

So I just registered here since I found this community doing a google search. Does anyone know how to disable Norton and and disable the Windows 7 Security Settings.

I've already turned off Nortonfor an hour  but when I try to disable Windows 7 Security Settings I get the message:  These settings are being managed by vendor application Norton Internet Security.

calls,     i have two xp,spe,ie8&chrome,nis2012.   on my emachine, last update according to live update history was at 3:10 am EST.  my hp machine got the same update at 10:51 am EST and according to live update history no updates since.   the wierd thing is i've been running manual live updates on both machines off and on all day (mostly pulse updates that live update stated were successful)    new virus defs have been out since 2:00 pm est but i'm showing virus defs for 12-18.   so ,i don't know if any of the updates i ran today actually updated or not. not sure when 12-19 virus uplates will load.  i wonder why nobody else is posting about this?    thanks

I run manual live updates and I only get pulse updates

calls,     just ran another manual live update- green check mark.   checked live update history- does not show the update. checked recent history-  entry for the same time as my attempted manual live update states   --- unauthorized access--open process token blocked          looks like norton is blocking its own updates         it sure is fun and exciting being a loyal norton user.    please check your history and see if you are getting the same thing.  thanks.

Ok I just rebooted. Waited a little, ran a manual live update. All I received was pulse update.
When I look at the virus def page for NIS 2012, it shows a virus def set dated 12/19/12. The one I have is dated 12/18/12

my problem seems to have started with this update.      2012-12-19  3:10:59 am eastern standard time    6 updates   ----    2012 web protection def----smart virus defs----ips defs----pulse updates-----antispam defs----reputation recovation defs           one of these has screwed up live update.      thank god for sandboxie.      thanks

Same here, Virus Defs show 12-19 2012 are out but live update only gives me pulse updates and I have 12-18-2012 virus defs too, When I look up what virus defs are out a message to update to the latetest version is mentioned first and then to run live update, I still have NIS 19.9.0.9.......Thanks, Gorpy1

calls,       open norton     click on advanced      click history        scroll down to live update and check your last update.     then check your recent history

My last update of Feds came early this morning like around 2am. It was a large number of updates too.
When I now manually run live update it either tells me I’m up to date or gives me pulse updates

Grippy, you saying there is suppose to be a new version of NIS 2012, newer than 19.9.0.9?

Oh and I’m in Central US time

Also I noticed yesterday larger gaps between live updates

Oh and that should read update of DEFs, dang spell check

On the update page where it shows the latest IPS DEFs and virus DEFs it does look like there is something about 12/20/12 release
Maybe there will just be another large update tonight

calls,   even though live update is giving you/me the green check mark,  i not sure we are getting them because they do not show in the update logs, plus i'm showing process being blocked in recent history which is the same time i ran manual live update.  hopefully norton can correct this but it is looking like another uninstall/reinstall.

No when you run a manual update and all that comes is a pulse update, I don’t think it shows in the log. Only if there are other updates included along with the pulse update

Hi Calls,

Gorpy was just mentioning his version number. The latest NIS 2012 is version 19.9.0.9 in which I use also.

Cool, thanks Ed
I think there is just a delay in DEFs. I just wanted to make sure it was nothing on my end

just ran manual live update--pluse update-green check mark------checked recent history  acessed terminated blocked  --   i don't think we are getting these updates.  there is no memtion of live update in recent history since 3:10 am.
