LiveUpdate prevents links from working

Everytime liveUpdate performs its auto update, all links from email client and all other programs including Norton are disabled.

clink on link and nothing happens. It is as if nothing knows what to open, even though firefox browser is default.

Closing browser and reopening fixes this.

but it is not satisfactory. This has been occurring everytime the update occurrs and has been going on for at leasr 3 months.

This is probably a bug.

Has anyone else experienced this and also how does you reports bugs to Norton / Symantec?

Hi toadhall (are you a fan of Wind in the Willows?) :-)

I have never heard of this issue before, but I see that you mention running Firefox and Thunderbird version 13. The latest version of these programs is 14.0.1. Please see if updating these two Mozilla programs to the latest version helps.

Hi toadhall,

It does sound like confusion over the default browser.  Have you tried making IE the default and then reverting the default back to Firefox?  Have you, at any time, uninstalled Chrome?

Someone from Norton support connected to my computer. They discovered that the only browser not affected was IE providing it was the default browser.  However, Mozilla firefox and Chrome (downloaded by Norton support as a test) failed to open links when set as default.

NIS was removed and reinstalled ny norton support.

After running Liveupdate all seemed ok with the exception that none of Norton's own links from their software product worked if a browser was open, but links from all other producys worked.

However, this was short lived, 24 hours later. after a LiveUpdate, all links fail to work until I have closed and reopened Firefox.

Somehow when NIS 2012 runs LiveUpdate, it disrupts all link requests from any software to the default browser, Mozilla Firefox if the browser is already open and in use;  (with the exception of IE if set as default).

Please do not suggest that I use IE.

Chrome - downloaded by Support - never used - gave it five minutes and decided it was as bad as IE  -have not uninstalled.

This is a Bug in NIS and needs to be ackowledged as requiring a fix.

If anyone knows how to report Bugs. that would be good.

Rather than being a bug in Norton, which would be affecting all Firefox users, this appears to be an issue of your PC sometimes being unable to determine when Firefox is the default browser.  I would try uninstalling Firefox, setting IE as the default, reinstalling Firefox and selecting it as the default again.
