I'm using Win XP and NIS20. I'm a longtime user of NIS, and have installed the full install files and updated them many times over the years. Last night I did an install using the full installation file for NIS 20.3.0.6 which I had downloaded in April from the well-known link here at norton.com. When I ran Liveupdate, it did a mega-update--some 240 MB (40 updates), and I had to reboot twice during the update. It finally told me that everything was up-to-date and Liveupdate found nothing else. But when I check at SUPPORT|ABOUT it still says 20.3.0.6. It didn't update all the way to the latest version of 20.3.1.22 even after multiple reboots. So that also messed up my Norton Toolbar in Firefox 21. It installed Toolbar 2013.3.4.3 which is incompatible. It did update the Vulnerability Protection to 11.3.0.9-5.
So I thought I'd uninstall NIS and Firefox, and re-try. I re-installed NIS 20.3.0.6, and it did the same thing.--it did a lot of various updates , but wouldn't update the program version. So I decided to use another installation file I had, which was for an earlier version 20.1.1.2. After I installed that one and did a big Liveupdate (rebooting a couple of times), it didn't update past 20.1.1.2 when I check at SUPPORT|ABOUT. So neither of the two versions updated past their original program file version, even though they updated various other components.
I just downloaded the following file from norton.com from the "free trial" page.
NIS-TW-30-20-3-0-36-EN-US
So I'll install it and see if I can get it to update to 20.3.1.22., but my confidence level is decreased.
But was curious if anyone has any thoughts on why I may not be able to update all the way with the first 2 files I tried? Since it happened with both of them, it made me wonder if anything was known to be wrong with Liveupdate last night that would account for it. I didn't get any update errors, just green checkmarks. Thanks for any info.
