Logging In To Norton 360

Can I log in to Norton 360, i.e. Get the passwords automatically filled in, without logging in to a Norton account?

For some reason my log in to the account is never accepted when asked to log in when selecting 'Login Assistant'. I can log in OK when I visit the forum and use the log in page. As I have previously stated I am not given the option to close the window, I have to use Windows Task manager.

Hi kevj,

Not sure I understand your question - are you talking about using a Local Vault or an Online Vault?  Which version (Support > About ) of N 360 are you using? If you are on an Online vault - youmust be logged into  you Norton Account in order to log into your Online vault.  Yu do not need to be logged into Norton Accoutn if youare using a Local Vault.

Why are you using the Login Assistant in lieu of the Vault Closed button to log in?

My question could also be put as before I could log in to Norton 360 by just using a password, now I have to enter a password and email address - why?

If I reset my PC I just get asked for a password for the log in vault - why is behavious different after I reset my PC?

See attached file for screenshots.

1. 'are you talking about using a Local Vault or an Online Vault?' - I am not sure - maybe this is part of the problem (my lack of knowledge).

All I want to do is 'log in' to Norton 360 to get my passwords automatically filled out.

2. 'Which version (Support > About ) of N 360 are you using?' - 20.3.1.22.

3. 'Why are you using the Login Assistant in lieu of the Vault Closed button to log in?' - I get the same windows if I press the Vault Closed button.

PS - thanks for the speedy reply!

Hi kevj  3

If you log into your Norton account by clicking the Norton icon then clicking account then click sign in the user interface has a tick box for remember me on this computer check the box log in then log out.

Hi - I keep getting the same error, i.e. it says my password or email address is wrong. I rest my password, try the same thing again and the problem still remains.

1. Could it be I signed up with a different email address than I currently use?

2. I never log in to my Norton account using an email address, always my 'login name' (kevj).

Hi kevj

To sign into your Norton account you need the email address and the password you set up when you first activated the account.

To login into the Norton forum you will use kevj and a password.

OK - thanks to the images you provided, you are logging into an Online Vault - the image in the upper left corner of the log in box is in fact a Cloud(with a lock on it) - thus it is an Online vault and not the Local vault, as the Local Vault Log in box has a closed Lock in the upper left hand corner.

2. 'Which version (Support > About ) of N 360 are you using?' - 20.3.1.22.

Thanks - that is the current version - so that is up to date.

I see, once I logged out of my ID Safe and click on the Login Assistant I see what you are saying.  Would you believe I have never tried to log in that way before - who says you can not teach an old dog new tricks!

PS - thanks for the speedy reply!

The reason you must sign into your Norton Account (email address and password) prior to signing into your ID safe account is because the ID Safe Vault is now on the Cloud.  You vault is made possible thru your Norton Account and is basically an addtional safe (security) guard for your passwords.  Now once you are signed into your Norton Account, you should remain signed in - even after reboots until such time as you "log/sign out of your Norton Account.  That means once logged into your Norton Account you should stay logged in for any subseuqent ID Safe Log-ins - meaning the Norton Account Log in box should not appear and ID Safe should only ask you for your Vault password.

kevj, I have been trying to keep up with what you are currently posting and I do believe there is some confusion with terminology.   The Norton Account you need to sign into is the Norton account that is tied to your N 360 activation - in other words the email address and password you used when you first installed/activated N 360.  You said you use your user name when you log into your Noprton account - are you by chance calling this forum your norton account.  I know I use yank to sign in here on the forums, but I can't get into my Norton Account using yank.

On the man page of N 360 there should be an option for Account - when you select that it should open a new page with a Sign In button.  Clicking it will provide a page to sign in on which asks for your EmaIl Address and Password.  This is where you need to enter the email address you used to register and activate your N 360 when you first installed it.

I see that others have jumped in the middle of this thread - so I will back off and let them handle it, as I am not only trying to help you, but also educate you - sorry!

Hi yank

On this thread and your post, number 8 you state, I see that others have jumped in the middle of this thread, I don’t understand why you state this as it is an open Norton forum where the Participation Guidelines (see link below) make no reference to protocol for users posting in any particular order or preference.

Thanks - you are right about confusion (mine). When I said 'Account' I meant this forum AND the Norton account that is tied to my activation - this is, I now realise, wrong. Throw in an old email address and different passwords - well you can see what was cauisng me the problems.

I am now sorted out - thanks. Now that I know that this forum and my account are different everything fell into place. I realise why I sign into my account given that the vault is online.

kevj,

I am glad you are sorted out and you are welcome for any assistance you have received.  I am glad you have also learned something from the explainations that have been given.

You just don't get it do you?

Regardless of what the guidelines say, I try to do more than just provide solutions, I try to provide education and explainations.

It is quite clear the OP was confused between the NA and the Norton community sign-in, as well as the local vault/online vault sign in differences - so I was trying to explain it - but you had to attempt to provide answers more quickly with out explanations - so the OP might never understand.

Was you jumping in against the guidleines?   NO!

Did it help the OP understand the reasoning behind why what they were doing was not working and what they should be doing?

Will it assist them in the future?  Perhpas even give them knowledge that may help others or provide knowledge that others may use?

I guess I must have the wrong impression here -  you see I am not looking for how many Kudos I can get, how many posts I make, how many solutions I can provide, nor any advancement in my status on this or any forum.

There were others who helped me in my quest for knowledge in the past on this and other forums and as a result I try to give back by volunteering my time here and on other forums.  I try not to only solve the situations, but also to pass on what knowledge I have and that is not alwasy by virtue of a macro - but by actually (hunting and pecking since I do not type lreal well) - so it takes me longer.

Bottom line - I guess it's my hangup that when I try to pass on some knowledge, it seems others are just more interested in giving solutions than reasons and passing on why!
