Okay - Just found out from one of my SMB clients who just got auto-upgraded from NIS v21 to NIS v22 (on several but not all [yet] of their Win-7/Pro-64 CAD/CAM workstations) that they are being prompted/forced to log into the upgraded workstation's primary Windows Administrator account in order to allow scheduled Norton Tasks to execute...
Specifically, they are being prompted by NIS v22 to do this (log into an Admin-Level account) so that the Norton "Internet Explorer History" cleanup task can run (stating that it can not be run from a User-Level Windows account) ...
Do we now presume that everyone swims these murky waters as unprotected (butt-stuck-out-in-the-breeze) Administrators?
In order to meet governmental security requirements (these folks are .MIL contractors,) their systems are not allowed to be ran with user accounts having Windows Admin-Level privileges. Actually, some of the highly specialized applications ran on these workstations detects this condition and shuts down. Do this enough times and the applications shutdown permanently (at least until a .GOV inspector comes out to the workplace; does a systems security re-inventory; and [hopefully, out of the goodness of their heart] resets/re-enables the station's security control dongle...)
So - What's the suggested solution (aside from ditching Norton)?
I'm expecting an answer that I won't like hearing - But fortunately (for them,) they are up for their annual Norton product renewal shortly ...
Cheers!
John
