Looking to correct garbled text when viewing internet pages?

Since I removed my MacAfee software and installed my Norton 360 5.0, I am getting garbled text when viewing pages on the internet. My laptop uses Microsoft Vista, and when I click on, say an article displayed on a websites home page, it goes to that page and article, but most of the text lines are doubled, tripled, quadrupled, etc. on top of each other. Sort of like double vision. I've found that by right clicking and dragging the cursor across what I'm trying to clear up so I can read and then left clicking, it clears the text (view) up to normal and readable with no lines superimposed on each other. Is this simply a setting that needs to be made since converting my security software?

Driving me crazy, any suggestions? Thanks.

What McAfee software was it and how did you remove it (uninstall from Add / Remove Programs or McAfee program's uninstall or using McAfee's cleanup tool)?

It is happening using Internet Explorer. No particular website. Typically, I'll be at, say, Yahoo or Fox Sports home page and see an article I want to read and click on it, and it goes to the article and this is when it happens. This never happened before, ever, till I installed the Norton 360?

Thx.

The McAfee I had was "McAfee Security Edition 2009". I used both the software uninstall and my normal Add/Remove Programs. Sounds funny but I used the McAfee uninstall program, and went to double check on my pc installed programs list, and there was still remnants of it installed. This is when I finished up by deleting any McAfee software still showing on my program list. I also have Windows Defender running, but I didn't have this issue with the McAfee installed. Hopefully this'll help.

Thx.

Hi,

Please follow the below steps and let us know the outcome

  • Open up a new Internet Explorer Web browser window.

  • Click on "Tools" - "Options". Click on the "Advanced" tab.

  • Click on "Restore advanced settings," to clean out settings that could be causing fonts to be garbled. Apply new changes by clicking on the "Apply" button in the right hand corner.

  • Go to the "General" tab. Click on "Fonts" button located at the bottom of the window (under Appearance).

  • Select "Latin based." Choose "Times New Roman" for "Web page font" and "Courier New" for "Plain text font". Click on "Apply."

I did this, but did not clear up the issue. Is it possible to say that it seems to have helped? Some pages still had the symptoms as it changed to the new page but cleared up before the new page was fully downloaded? Also, just by running the cursor over the messed up text/fonts cleared some garble stuff up? Wow! Pretty weird and have never seen anything like this before.

This can happen due to corrupted Fonts. Goto Run->inetcpl.cpl->Advanced->Reset->Close Internet Explorer then Open it and check the Webpages.
