Lost all system restore points (and more)

I had to update my subscription, but since I was not using the online backup for the Premier, I decided to purchase the 360 standard. After uninstalling (with saving settings) and rebooting, not only did I loose a number of drivers (including to the DVD, USB ports, and other drive connections), but I lost ALL my system restore points.

In frustration (unhappily) I resubscribed to Premier, downloaded and reinstalled it, and although my DVD now appears and is functional, my system restore points are still missing.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Also... how do I return an opened 360 Standard box to Staples for a refund? (probably the harder issue here...!)

Hi, Loriendrew,

Welcome to our community!

The drivers problem is a known issue with Windows; Microsoft has a fix posted on their site. It is also generally fixed (because Norton supplies the missing driver during installation) when you complete installation of Norton 360.

The system restore point issue, oddly enough, is unconnected to anything Norton, because system restore is a Microsoft program and there's nothing in the Norton install/uninstall process that could affect it. It could, I suppose, be connected to the same Microsoft issue that cost you your drivers--although I've never seen it reported in other instances of that. Of course I'd never seen it affect USB drivers either, so anything is possible.

Because your original goal was to switch from Premier back to Standard, and because your drivers would have been restored by installing your new copy of Standard too, I think what I would suggest is that you uninstall Premier again--first using the Add/Remove function from Windows Control panel and then downloading and running the Norton Removal Tool. Then download and install Norton 360 Standard from here (which will still be possible if Windows deletes the drivers again; remember, Norton will install a copy of them anyhow, so you'll get them back). Then reactivate Norton 360 Standard using the Product Key that you received in your box from Staples.

Then--once you have confirmed that Norton 360 Standard is installed and running the way you want it to, contact Norton's Live Chat customer support center here, and get a refund of your Norton 360 Premier renewal that you didn't really want anyhow.

Thank you for the info. I have done two of three computers now (premium to standard). It takes so long.. update, restart, update, restart...

I still lost all my restore points, the DVD drive works, and the USBs seem to work.

Anyway, once I get all three done I will plead my case to Customer Support for the premium refund.

Yeah, it's a pain--but so is any time you switch programs, like from WordPerfect to Word, or McAfee to Norton. Glad to hear you've made progress on the biggest issues--and at the end of the day I think you'll have software that's cheaper and better meets your needs.

Good luck with the rest of the switchover, and with the refund. Norton pretty much has a 60-day, no questions asked refund policy, so you shouldn't have any problem there.

You know where to find us if you need us!

I contacted Support, and everything was quickly and pleasantly resolved.

Thank you for all the help!

Awesome--the anticipated result, and just the news we like to hear! :smileyhappy:

Happy (and secure!) computing, and have a great weekend.
