I also am having difficulty. 3 User NIS08. Easy installs on two other machines. I have a "Retail Edge" promo white box with Intel Dual 28 processor. Board is very fast. No problems, except this install NIS08. I have reinstalled 3 times. Same prob persists. Removed Live Update so that's on hold.

But when I try HELP I never get thru, most times I get msft err msg to effect 4a5a_appcompat.txt. Also hsloader vbscript.dll ver 5.7.0.18066.

Can someone help me get far enought along that I can use auto help?

Thx in advance. steady..

My laptop recently starting performing VERY slow and when I did a review of all the processes running this lucomserver 3 was taking up a lot of memory and my CPU usage shot up to 100%. The process would not end either and only when I turned my internet connection off and tried to stop it a few times does it stop.  I never had this problem or process prior to my update to the 2008 Norton Security a few days ago so did it tag along or is it coincidence? Neither Norton or SpySweeper find any virues or anything. Can anyone give me any help or advice? Thanks.

steady99,

What operating system are you using?  Was there another internet security or antivirus program installed prior to your NIS2008 installation?

I suggest all of you should uninstall LiveUpdate from Add/Remove programs and download the latest version from here.

If you still have problems, try using Norton Removal Tool and install NIS 08 again. If you still have problems, write here :)

Open the services window and stop the Automatic LiveUpdate(it should be manual).

Restart the computer and run LiveUpdate manually.

Now check what is happening?

Same old. Tried install 3x. Used jv16 after xp removal. Tried everything recommended, and more than once. Basic NIS works, just that live update hangs, and nothing short of reboot can halt that hang. Gotta be quick to disable it before it pops into action.  I have enabled most all services, tho this is home install. I believe that I mentioned that using the help utility fails with err msg to msft. Can't get past that. I can and do just get manual update, but I cannot take advantage of  NIS testing itself.

Thx again. Steady...

Below is what I see when I try to "leave Feedback". Which module is causing me all this grief? Thx. steady.....

McAfee was installed but removed using their uninstaller. Then fragments hunted down with jv16 cleaner. Before that was NAV07. But I used all the factory removal tools then followed up with the cleaner.

WinXP Sp3.

MCSE, A+ etc on this end. Thx. steady.........

Hi Lubieman,

I've sent you private message with instructions on collecting logs for our analysis of this problem.  Please send me a message back when you're able to dothat.  Hopefully these logs will give a better clue on what may be going on.

Regards,
Vo

lubieman,

What operating system are you using?

Lucomserver3 should not use the amount of resources you specified. However, since you mentioned you have just recently installed NIS 2008, I would suggest manually Run Live Update a few times from the main NIS control panel (lower left corner) just to be sure you have all of the required updates. If restarts are required, please do so.

Once you have done that, go to Help & Support at the top right hand corner and try the AutoFix tool. It takes only a few minutes and may help diagnose any problems with your installation.

If that doesn't help, go to Start > Control Panel > Symantec Live Update. On the Automatic LiveUpdate tab, click "Restore Defaults".

Please let us know of your progress.
