MAC OSX Snow Leopard just hangs

Hi,

I Have NIS 4.0 running on MAC OSX Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on an iMAC Quad Core 27" with 8GB mem and 1TB drive.

In the last 2-3 weeks since recent Norton updates my system keeps just hanging usually with a spinning colour ball.

Symtoms include.

1) After machine has been running for 5 min or so attempting to start new apps (Safari Mail etc) fails. The Dock Icon bounces for a while and a window never opens. Although when you look in "Force Quit" the application is listed. Then slowly other already running Applications start to lock up.

2) If the machine has locked the screen or logged the user out, after typing the Login ID and Password the screen hangs with a spinning colour ball and never completes login.

3) Logging out or Shutting down, results in a spinning colour ball on a blue screen and never completes.

4) Machine becomes generally very sluggish. ie. > 1min to open Safari, if it opens at all.

I tried restoring to my original load using time machine and after a day or so (And another Norton Update) the problem returned.

Loading MAC OSX from scratch results in the same thing after re-installing NIS 4 and it has done an update.

I waited until the problem was really bad again and Removing NIS 4.0 from the machine using the Symantec uninstall has cleared any problems. The machine has been running fast and reliably (But without NIS) for 3 days and the problem has not returned.

If this is really a NIS 4 Bug then I need to know because I only have until 5/5/2010 to request a refund.

It looks for all world to me like lock contention.
