Oh yeah… and I also wholeheartedly vote for having a Mac section in these forums…

hi Corentin!
If you virus definitions date is July 14th or later, you have the fix for the Vulnerability Protection--I am sorry I didn't include the date. The engine itself is on a different timeline-we just added this fix as part of the signatures and definitions update.
Your assumption is absolutely correct. The fix applies to all mounted images on network drives, which, of course, includes Time Capsule.
I got an update from QA and we are hoping to have the update posted on Monday or Tuesday. I will let you know!
thanks for your patience and support!

Thanks a lot for the clarifications Mike,
And I double-checked on my Mac: it used to panic whenever I was using an usenet client application and now it doesn't anymore :-)
Corentin
That's what we like to hear!!
thanks for letting me know.
take care,
mike
hi everyone!
I am pleased to report that the update to Norton AntiVirus (making it version 11.0.1) is on the LiveUpdate servers for all regions. It fixes the TimeCapsule (and other network drive) mount scan issue.
Just run LiveUpdate and you will get it!
best,
mike

Thanks a lot for the great news Mike :-)

Hi everyone--
Just wanted to drop you an update:
1 - We released an update to Norton AntiVirus 11 for Mac that addresses an issue where some users were experiencing kernel panics with Vulnerability Protection turned on. It was posted last night, so you just run LiveUpdate and you'll have the fix.
2 - We fixed an issue where Auto-Protect was scanning files on TimeCapsule and TimeMachine volumes. This no longer happens.
3 - We are working on an actual product update to Norton AntiVirus that will make sure that TimeCapsule volumes (and other disk images mounted over a network) will not be scanned by MountScanner. The code is checked in, we just need to build it and test the patchers and then will post the update via LiveUpdate (it will change Norton AntiVirus for Mac 11 to version 11.0.1). For the time being, you may just want to turn off "Auto Disk Scan" in your Auto-Protect preferences.
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have any comments, questions or concerns, either here or by email at mike_romo@symantec.com.
thanks,
mike
Mike, thanks a million for the excellent news.
I ran live update today and got a couple of updates for my Mac, but it is not obvious which one addresses the Kernel Panic issue.
How can I tell whether it is properly installed??
Did it come with the Vulnerability protection engine version 1.2.1??
One more little question. In what you mention about the 11.0.1 update, you mention time capsule and disk images mounted over a network. I assume it also covers network drives in general (after all, Time Capsule is just a network drive). Right?
