Is this intentional, or is something wrong here?
Thanks! Martin
Hi,
Quick question
Have you checked your display settings? Personalization?
What version of Windows are you using .... including 32 bit or 64 bit and what version of Norton Internet Security is it -- check Support / About where it is in the format nn.nn.nn.nnn where n is a number from 0 to 9
I am using Windows 8 Professional 64 Bit on a Lenovo Thinkpad W530. It has "Optimus" graphics, i.e. it switches between Intel and NVidia graphics. Drivers are from Lenovo, and haven't been updated by Lenovo for a while. NIS worked on these drivers before, and I have no idea what change on the system caused the new behavior.
As for the browser, i usually use Chrome, and occasionally IE 10.
Thanks for the hint! NIS did not act up for the first time. I had to clean it out and reinstall not too long ago. Since it is always quite some work, I don't really feel like doing this every few weeks.
Usually the icon at the bottom right is gone after a few suspend/resumes (my laptop seldom gets restarted, it just goes to sleep). When I then try to start NIS again, I get some error pop up (the exact details vary). Sometimes I can reboot and NIS works again, sometimes it is broken for good.
It worked fine for many years, it just acts up on my newest computer, which runs Windows 8. I really hope that it becomes as reliable again as it was before, otherwise it's time to find a new solution.
<< it just acts up on my newest computer, which runs Windows 8. >>
I think I've seen a post from Norton that Microsoft is working to resolve this ..... presumably like Microsoft had to resolve the glitch that showed you had no AV protection when Norton (and Kaspersky I gather) was in fact running correctly ....
Are you still on the released Windows 8.0 or have you installed the preview 8.1 which is effectively a beta and should not be run on a work needed computer.
I am on a fully patched, up-to-date Windows 8, which originally was factory installed by Lenovo. Part of the factory image was NIS. All I did there was to enter my regular license key, and then run update until nothing could be installed anymore.
Since then I had to reinstall NIS at least once, however.
Just now NIS has gone again from the group of running applications shown at the bottom right corner of the desktop.
I then clicked on the "Norton Internet Security" tile. After about 5 Minutes I get a pop up error message about error 8504,104.
This happens very often, even if I reinstall NIS from scratch. A reboot usually corrects the issue, but sometimes NIS is broken for good.
It seems to be related to suspend/resume, but I am not 100% sure.
There has been conflicts in the past with Lenovo systems that had Rapid Boot and Norton installed. I nmost cases the disabling of the Rapid Boot fixed the problem.
There was also a situaton with Rapid Restart (Lenovo) and Norton - but I do not remember the outcome of that one.
Thanks for the hint! I uninstalled Intel Rapidboot right at the beginning. The Lenovo software is only available for Windows 7, as far as I know, because Windows 8 has its own rapid restart feature (which is disabled on my system as well).
So unfortunately these pieces of software are not causing the issue.
