Malicious site blocked?

Hi Rainbow_2
So will it prompt me to run updates when I click a full scan? I will be using this program maybe once every 2 months if I’m unsure Norton hasn’t picked up anything.

And in regards to my other post does it matter if it brings up a administrator message everytime I load up MBAM? I’m not too bothered about it because I won’t use it everyday and it’s only one click so if this doesn’t effect the use of the program I’m not bothered.

And Apostolos mentioned something about the installation of MBAM I just ran it and installed it like a normal program. Is that okay?

Thanks a lot for your help

No, but it will prompt you to update it when you open MBAM, if your setting of the number of days you entered when setting "Notify me if the database hasn't been updated for ... days". (Note that this is a translation as my MBAM is not in English) has elapsed.

It's the same for me, and it is normal. I know there is a way to disable it but I can't remember right now: I'll see if I can find it later today or tomorrow, and will post back.

What do you mean exactly?

Hi Rainbow_2
So if I untick this box will it only do updates when I run scans? Because that’s the way I’d like it to be I don’t want any MBAM updates clashing with Norton LU!

And Apostolos post was this

Hi AA1,

I forgot to ask, when you ran the MBAM installer, did you right-click and select Run as Admin or not??
It’s best to do this.

Regards,

When I downloaded it, it I ran it through FF and then it downloaded like normal and installed like a normal program so I was quite unsure about this!

Thanks a lot

Hi Laura,

I believe that he ran the MBAM installer by double clicking on it instead of right click and select Run as Admin.

Now he gets, a User Account Control message but it's normal and it's nothing.

I cannot see what other type of message it is other than this.

Regards,

" When I downloaded it, it I ran it through FF and then it downloaded like normal and installed like a normal program so I was quite unsure about this!"

AA1,

For this kind of stuff, instead of running it through the browser, you save the installer on Desktop, you close the browser and after you run it. (Select as Run as Admin).

It's always a good practice also to reboot, even if not asked, after the installation is complete.

Regards,

Hi Apostolos
So am I okay just to use this program as normal? If so at least I know now what to do when downloading new programs into my PC and no longer getting this message!

And can I also say that MBAM Free and Norton 360 are working perfectly fine on harmony LOL!?

Thanks a lot

" So am I okay just to use this program as normal?"

Hi AA1,

Yep, ignore the message.

If you want to get rid of this, uninstall MBAM and follow the suggestion I described earlier for a reinstallation.

Regards,

If you untick that box I think you will not be notified at all of how old the database is when you open it. But let me clarify one thing:  MBAM FREE doesn't do any updates automatically, it is the user who must remember to update it (Updates > Check updates button - or similar words...) before running a scan.

I don't see any problems in what you did, unless I miss something...

Hi Rainbow_2 and Apostolos
Thanks for all of your help will I get a notification coming up within MBAM saying database out of date everyday if I don’t update?

And how do I run updates manually because today when I performed my first scan with MBAM it updated regardless!

Thanks a lot

I didn't install it myself on my system, and I also get the User Account Control message.

As I told Audi in my post/Message # 22 above:   "It's the same for me, and it is normal. I know there is a way to disable it but I can't remember right now: I'll see if I can find it later today or tomorrow, and will post back."

Hi AA1,

I suppose that you installed the MBAM v.2 and I'm not familiar with.

Maybe there are some changes in the way that MBAM Free gets updated but don't worry, I'm sure that another member here will jump on this and give us some more details.

Regards,

Hi Rainbow_2
Do not worry about posting back later or tomorrow I’m not to bothered about it as long as the broken functions how it’s supposed to I’m fine with it!

But thank you none the less

" I didn't install it myself on my system"

Hi Laura,

Then who installed it, Mothman?? lol!!

Also, if you open Control Panel you can turn off User Account Control notifications and you won't receive any more messages.

Hope this helps,

Very best regards,

IMO, since you don't want to be prompted to update, you should enter the maximum time allowed (28 days?) and you will be prompted only every 28 days.

If it updated automatically probably you are NOT running the FREE version

" If it updated automatically probably you are NOT running the FREE version"

Hi Laura,

I'm not familiar with the latest version of MBAM so I cannot comment on this, however what you state above could be true.

Regards,

Hi Rainbow_2
I have just opened up MBAM and it says Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Free) 2.0.1.1004

and in the dashboard screen it only has database version and scan progress l with the green ticks. Real time protection and license both have red X’s next to them. I think I may of phrased what I said wrong.
When I went to run a scan it did a update then and then proceeded with the scan!

And if I go over to the scan bar it says Last updated 9 hours ago and last scan 9 hours ago is this normal behaviour?

Sorry for any confusions

" When I went to run a scan it did a update then and then proceeded with the scan!"

AA1,

IT did (Auto) or YOU did update(manually). ??

Regards,

Hi Apostolos
I cannot remember but before the scan it had a update screen and then straight too the scan that’s all I can remember. When downloading I made sure to click FREE and when installing I didn’t tick the trail and just kept it as FREE

Thanks a lot

" I cannot remember but before the scan it had a update screen"

Hi AA1,

Monitor the MBAM update activity today & tomorrow, and if does not auto-updating, then probably you have the correct setup.

Regards,

Hi Apostolos
How do I monitor this?
I’m just about to come off my computer but just for reference tomorrow how do I check if it has run a update or not? Is there logs similar to Norton?

And for later reference how do I manually run a update of I ever wanted to run a scan with MBAM?

Thanks for your help
