Caveat: I do not run Norton AntiTrack

My suggestion do not use anti-track at all. Co-Pilot is 100% dependent on the data that is being BLOCKED to function correctly. Norton anti-track is concerned with your privacy so each software will try to rule one over the other. Here is some AI information that may make that clearer for you. Note: AI does make mistakes with its postings.

AI Overview

Incompatible privacy and anti-tracking software can prevent Copilot for Microsoft 365 from working correctly as its functionality depends on analyzing user content and activity. While it is not designed to be blocked by these tools, its dependence on specific network connections and data collection for personalization can cause conflicts.

Here are the reasons for the conflict and steps you can take to resolve it.

How anti-tracking affects Copilot

  • Blocking network connections: Anti-tracking software often interferes with connections that collect data for advertising or analytics. Because Copilot relies on a steady connection to Microsoft services and sometimes Bing for web queries, these tools may misidentify and block its network traffic.
  • Preventing access to content: Copilot’s core function is to generate content and summarize information from your Microsoft 365 documents, emails, and chats by accessing the Microsoft Graph. Some privacy-enhancing tools and custom firewall rules can interpret this access as unwanted surveillance and block it.
  • Overriding privacy settings: Copilot respects your privacy settings within Microsoft 365, such as whether it can use content-analyzing or optional connected experiences. However, anti-tracking software can create a separate, stricter layer of blockage that overrides Microsoft’s settings and prevents Copilot from operating.

How to troubleshoot conflicts

  1. Check security and privacy settings. First, use the built-in Microsoft troubleshooting tools. This will help you check if your software configurations, such as firewall rules, are the source of the issue.
  • Open the “Get Help” app in Windows.
  • Search for the “Copilot connectivity troubleshooter”.
  1. Temporarily disable anti-tracking software. Try temporarily disabling your firewall, VPN, and any other anti-tracking extensions or programs to see if Copilot begins to work. If it does, you can re-enable the software and proceed to the next steps to identify and allow Copilot’s traffic.
  2. Create exceptions for Copilot. Allow Copilot traffic through your security and anti-tracking software.
  • For firewalls and antivirus: Go into your program’s settings and add an exception for Copilot or other Microsoft 365 services.
  • For browser extensions (Edge): Add Microsoft services to the “Exceptions” list in the tracking prevention settings.
  1. Confirm your Copilot license. If your license is not configured correctly, you may encounter connectivity issues.
  • Open the “Get Help” app and use the “Copilot license troubleshooter” to ensure your license is active and detected.
  1. Adjust privacy controls in Office apps. Check your privacy settings within Microsoft 365 apps. Some connected experiences that analyze your content are required for Copilot to function.
  • Go to File > Account > Account Privacy > Manage Settings in any Microsoft 365 app.
  • Ensure that “connected experiences that analyze your content” are turned on.
