Microsoft Edge Browser might have updated itself to build
86.0.622.61, and refuses to reboot.
The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail.
An error occurred while checking for updates: We couldn't create that component (error code 1: 0x80004005 -- system level).
"THANK YOU MS !" "Now it's a reload, a complete waste of my time."
I keep an eye on what updates on my machines; I don't use EDGE, at all.
A mobile browser, on a usb stick is good, for the days when nothing works.

ps. Reloaded. All good !

ITMA - Thanks for the info as always. Edge Chromium,is my secondary browser, so, I just allowed it to update itself. Once done, it asked to restart Edge and did so. No issues with Edge restarting and loading my settings as before.

edge chromium latest version after reboot.pngThe error you received suggests something with your system files isn't correct. If you are now on the 2004 version of Windows 10, it will REMOVE the legacy version of Edge, replacing it with Edge Chromium when the update is installed. Or so MS states. Since Edge will now be baked into the OS level kernel, try the following using an administrator account on your computer to help prevent the error from happening again:

In the search bar, type cmd.
Right-click on cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator.
Type sfc /scannow and press the Enter key.

Next: Perform a health check and clean-up on your Windows install

Re-enter Command Prompt as Administrator and run these:
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Once your system files are repaired double check you are running Windows with all updates installed. Reboot and re-check.

Cheers
