I got notice of those earlier today and it looks as if some of the fixes with IE relate to things we've been experiencing on my W7 workhorse.
I'll install soon and see but I'll give time for the screams!

Ever since Windows 3.0 became windows 3.1.1 so this was not so new to me.
A couple of old-timers then. Although I had a Tandy 2000 (CPU 80C186) as my first computer and they had an advert featuring Bill Gates saying how much his programmers liked it (since it had non-standards graphics that had difficulty running Windows that might explain a lot of problems!) my first real computer was a Toshiba 1200XE with a lightning fast 12Mbps. CPU which the dealer upgraded to WfWG3.11 so we must go back to about the same time.
Microsoft Windows has had a habit of making the product, making the mistakes and then jump starting the product with rectifying updates.
In one way or another everyone with any volume of users has to do that. How can you predict the effect of system variations when you have so many millions of users with varying hardware, drivers, user installed programs and so on?
And since any user group like this (not that there are any as good <g>) sees more complainers than congratulators we certainly hear what's wrong!
Going back to when you did you must surely have used CompuServe? I still sysop there in PCHardware and Windows Support!
Maybe Microsoft is finally throwing some love to the way of Win 7 and 8.1 folks.

As everyone talks about windows 7, i must say that i personally miss Windows Xp because compared to Windows 2000 it was way more integrated and graphical. But then again Microsoft Windows has had a habit of making the product, making the mistakes and then jump starting the product with rectifying updates. Ever since Windows 3.0 became windows 3.1.1 so this was not so new to me.
What I understand they are doing is fixing a bug common to 10 and 7/8.1 but only fixing it in 10 not documenting it at all, then the bad guys say "look what they changed in that last patch -- ah I see they fixed vulnerability XYZ in windows 10, lets look at Windows 7/8.1 and find the same problem but microsoft didn't fix it". Extended support still should cover critical vulnerabilities.
Indeed so.
The article and opinion suggest MS is releasing update to W10 with a higher priority than with W7.
Which for me, taking into account:
Client operating systems / Latest update or service pack / End of mainstream support / End of extended support
Windows 7 * / Service Pack 1 / January 13, / 2015 January 14, 2020
is not surprising and far from "Leaving in the lurch" which is what I was pointing to.
Yes. Windows 7 in various forms including embedded is still in wide-spread use in business (as indeed is XP in surprising places where I run into it!) but they now the risks, if any, that they are taking since MS has made it quite clear.
Hugh, not at all incorrect. The article and opinion suggest MS is releasing update to W10 with a higher priority than with W7. When I still hadW7 and W10 on separate machines I did take note of more so called "out of cycle" updates than with 10. Leading me to the conclusion, once reading this article I posted as an explanation for that being as delayed rather than OOC. Cheers!!
Microsoft is putting Windows 7 users at risk by giving Windows 10 priority patches that its older sibling may not receive - and, if it does, they may not be rolled out until a much later date. That is the assertion of researcher Mateusz Jurczyk from Google's Project Zero, which has already found a number of troubling vulnerabilities in Microsoft's operating systems.
So that's why I just got a couple of Windows 7 updates ...
And from what you say the original headline is incorrect and they are not leaving us W7 users in the lurch.
huwyngr:Or maybe it is because the structures of 7 and 10 are so different that 7 does not have the at risk elements.
8 deserves to be bussed.
Actually they are so similar inside that they are using what they fixed in 10 to find the unfixed bugs from 7/8.1. (binary patch diffs)
I can use an adjusted Windows 8.1 a whole lot better than I can ever hope to use windows 10. And it doesn't look like windows 10 is going to improve where it counts anytime soon.
Or maybe it is because the structures of 7 and 10 are so different that 7 does not have the at risk elements.
8 deserves to be bussed.
Indeed so Dick. Can't wait to see how the forums literally explode when the Redstone Fall Creators update hits in a few days. I believe that release date is set for October 17th. Patch Tuesday is just three days away as well.
