Hi there
We are a software development company who create a bespoke package which integrates with Microsoft Word for our mail merging procedures. We have recently had a spate of customers who have been affected by an issue when using our mail merging process, which we have been able to identify as an issue with Norton Internet Security (possibly other variations of this product). We have tried to add exceptions within Norton for any of the files/paths which may have an influence on the process and we have also disabled all of Norton's resident programs/processes in an attempt to resolve the issue, none of which have been successful.
We have been able to identify with reasonable certainty that the issue is a result of Norton and a recent update of the software; namely that this issue has only reared its head in the past week or so and that by uninstalling Norton completely, we are able to resolve the issue.
The error message which Microsoft Word reports when Norton is still installed can be seen below :-
Whilst we certainly do not wish to advise our customers to uninstall Norton or look elsewhere for there AV/Firewall/Security software, at the moment we are left with little choice as our customer base use the mail merge functionality within our program on a daily basis. As more and more of our customers receive their latest security updates from Norton and are affected by this issue, we may have little alternative but to advise them as such.
I am hopeful that someone on these forums responsible for escalating issues such as these, will be able to do so promptly and aid us in resolving this issue for the benefit of our mutual customers.
Kind Regards
Steve
