I have a NAS with its own anti-virus, and the recent log file shows that it detected and removed 'win.virus.expiro' in one of the backup files.
Why is it that Norton missed this, and I had to discover the information in a NAS log file?

Hello. Good question indeed. Virustotal show it has no submission for Norton as having detected this. IF you still have a sample of the file submit it to Virustotal, lets see what those results are.

Conversely. Two A/V solutions will always bump heads when it comes to protections and detections. If you haven't already done so, disable the A/V on your NAS ( MAKE IT NOT VISIBLE ON THE INTERNET ) then have Norton run a full scan of it. Norton should have detected this while files were in transfer to and from the NAS.
