What is the difference between "Norton Security" and "Norton 360" software. I am confused. I seem to have been swopped between the two sometime in the past (2 years ago ?). Now I have Norton Security and it keeps crashing. It keeps looking for missing "DLL" files; which are not missing.
Any advice would be helpful
Bill
Bill, did you perform the DISM image repair on your Windows installation as suggested? If you are continuing to get system crashes something is amiss with Windows. Give it a go.

Thanks for the further suggestion. My NS worked on Friday 3rd then crashed on Saturday. Despite run RnR and reloading the software numerous times since May I am no further forward understanding this software. So after 20 years with it, I give up and will uninstall it.
Thanks for your effort. Bill
If fast startup has been enabled earlier that could be the reason for the werfault showing in history. That file is the Windows error reporting executable and most likely was seeing something amiss between Defender and Norton. Norton will set certain registry values and take over some but not all, the primary functions Defender provides and register it with Defender and Windows. As a precaution I can recommend running DISM on your system to check for the health of your OS. Below is the suggested article. Please let us know if this helps prevent the situation from reappearing.

SoulAsylum, I have followed your suggestions yesterday as well as I understand them. I have used R&R before without success. And yesterday was no exception. I finally could enter the Norton Security program but it would not let me backup my files nor would it do a scan. Then it crashed saying it was unloading "AvScnTsk.dll". I gave up and switched off my PC. Today my Norton Security crashed soon after I switched on my PC and before I had done anything. But "lo and behold" it then let me into the software. I was able o backup my files and do a scan. What changed !! When I now ran Norton History I notice there had been a battle between Microsoft file "Werfault" as actor against the Norton software. I get an error message "Unauthorised access blocked". So is Windows Defender the problem? Do I just ignore these Norton crashes, restart my PC and just carry on. Thanks for your help, Bill
Thanks for that information Bill. Much appreciated. I'm glad seeing that you have NOT updated to Windows 10 version 2004. Its a total mess. First off check for "fast startup" being enabled on the system, if it indeed is disable it. Here is how to do that in case you aren't familiar with doing it.
Download and run the R&R tool, make sure you are using a log in on your computer that has admin privileges and run the tool by right clicking it and select "Run as admin". Follow this guide , scroll down to the section of the article labeled " I need help removing Norton". Perform a REMOVE ONLY and reboot. Once you have rebooted fully, download your product again from your Norton account. Install and manually run live updates after the 1st patch installs automatically. When each patch / update set has installed REBOOT whether prompted to do so or not. Run live update to ensure no more are available and reboot yet again. Recheck for the original issue being present and Norton functionality. Let us know what your results are.

I am using Norton Security v 22.20.4.57 on windows 10 Home edition v1909 OS build 18363900. Ever since my subscription was renewed on 10th May, Norton keeps crashing. The Norton email I got said I was renewing Norton 360. But I was given access to the product Norton Security that I have used for the last few years. Why do my emails from Norton keep mentioning a different product?
I attached a text copy of the Problem details from the S&M screen in the Control panel.
I note 2 items. The Norton Secuity says on 1st line it is v 17.2.3.43 ?
I also note the missing DLL called AVScnTsk is listed as v 22.20.4.197?
Are these sources both correct?
Thanks for your help. Bill
Hello Bill. What operating system are you running and what is your Norton product version? I cannot link you to a tutorial for how to find that information as most Norton support pages I am visiting are unavailable. You can find that info by opening the user interface and clicking HELP in the top bar. In the HELP CENTER under general information click ABOUT. On the next small screen your product version is visible.
