Hi Tony,
I am re-installing N360v2 (with 240+ days remaining to date) after BETA testing NIS2009. The installer was looking for a file name 'SymIMV.sys' during N360v2 installation. My OS is a MS Vista SP1. I have been reporting this problem to the Symantec online technical support and they have done sort of things like deleting old N360v2 installation, cache files, temp folder, etc., but to date they have not come up with a solution. It is kind of frustrating, I lost track already of the number of times the tech guys attempted to fix this problem via remote desktop access but they all failed to rectify the problem.
Right now Iâm using a trial program from another internet security protection provider. On the first run it detected some malicious software and infected files that had been sitting in my computer long before I installed the N360v2 early this year. I just received an instruction from âreese_anschultzâ (link: http://community.norton.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage/note-id/2590/notes-view-mode/single) and would like to try it as soon as I get home. I am also looking forward receiving instructions from you.
Thank you.
Gilbert
For the past four nights I have been reporting this N360 v2 installation problem. I lost track of how many times analysts attempted to fix this problem through remote desktop control but until now no one was able to do so. It is kind of frustrating being left in the air while the problem is not yet been solved. My N360 is of the online downloadable copy. The solution offered for now is sending me a CD copy of N360 which I was told to expect in 5 to 6 days.

Hi Glibert,
My advice would be to follow Reese's instructions. Thanks!
Hi Tony,
On the 4th procedure:
4.)
Goto
C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and locate directory
symimv.inf_xxxxx where xxxxx is a mix of numbers and letters. Assuming this is NTFS files system (I believe
Vista requires ntfs..) need to change
permissions on the folder to be able to remove.
-
right click the
symimv.inf_xxxx directory and choose properties
-
goto security tab and
click on âeditâ button
-
Select âEveryoneâ in
the list and then check allow box for âFull Controlâ and click ok. Click on âcontinueâ for warnings of access
denied on files. Then click ok to exit
out of Properties page. ------ I can't perform this one, the box is inactive despite of being an administrator account. Is there another way to do this?
-
Delete the
symimv.inf_xxxxx folder
Best regards,
Gilbert
Hi spyx,
I'm assuming this was the information sent to you in a PM from reese_anschultz. Please post in that thread, so we don't have the same issue in two different threads by the same customer. Thanks!
Can you provide any more information about this problem? Which operating system you are using, or the error message (is it âMissing file SymIMV.sys during N360 v2 installationâ?) would be helpful as well. Are you upgrading from the previous version, or from another Symantec product? I am sorry for the many questions, I want to better understand the issue. Thanks!
