Mobile App Monitoring

Hi, IT guy from the UK here.

I have a customer who is very interested in family safety for her three young daughters.  One of whom has been the victim of cyberbullying in the past.

Yours is the only product that comes remotely close to what she needs, so I recommended she opt for the premium version.

Initial testing is so far so good.

However, it currently does not monitor social networking apps, for example, Facebook, Twitter (And other 3rd party apps for Twitter), Instagram, Kik... Etc  (The list seems endless)

Is this due to restrictions in place by those app developers? Or is Norton working to cover these apps as well?

I would be interested in your reply, as I am a big proponent of family safety on all devices, not just the computer, and would like to recommend your app to others once I know that it's going to cover these too.

Thanks.

Even if it did cover all the things you listed it will not matter till norton finds a fix for incogneto made / privet browsing, it is by far the biggest flaw in there software and has been pointed out to them many times.

Hi RebootHC,

The Norton Family for Android program currently provides the features that allow the parents to see the apps children download and block apps by name or type.  Please check out the link below for details on what features that are currently available for Android.

Hi Katie,

Not quite the answer I needed.  Was wondering if there were plans to implement these things in the future?  I've already read what it can do.

Wes.. I have a simple solution for the home computer at least, disable Incognito Mode and Private Browsing etc through a bit of Google searching.

I haven't considered mobile browsers yet, but may lock down the browser they can use to something that is quite limited in features.

HTTPs traffic is a common issue, for many manufacturers of this software, and also has affected many hardware manufacturers too.

Draytek routers have also had issues with trying to block it, due to the very nature of HTTPs being a way to securely browse without being monitored.  The only solution I found was to disable HTTPs access on the router completely.

This, however, does cause a problem when the user leaves the local network and goes to mobile data,

Hi RebootHC,

Thanks for the update.  I'll double check with the team and get back to you.

Thanks,

Katie
