Mouse pointer/cursor keeps changing to an arrow with vertical scroll bar
Hello Norton Community:
I just purchased a refurbished ThinkPad T580 and after two months, it started giving me a vertical scroll bar with the arrow/cursor. I have done the following:
1. I performed a FULL Scan with Norton 360 for Windows and it found no virus or any kind of malicious malware.
2. I performed a FULL Scan with Windows Defender and it found no virus or any kind of malicious malware.
3. Then I decided to Scrubbed the SSD using Gutmann Method with 35 passes.
4. Then reimaged the Thinkpad T580 with the Official Lenovo Windows 10 Pro Image
5. Then I went ahead and configured Windows 10 Pro and the vertical scroll bar appeared again with the arrow/cursor.
Can anyone inform me if this is a malicious malware/virus latching onto some chip like the BIOS, Keyboard Circuitry, Touchpad Circuitry, etc.... that can never be rid of? Obviously, it couldn't have been on the SSD since I had scrubbed it with the Guttmann Method and 35 passes. Please anyone experiencing this @ Norton Community or Norton Technical Support, can you please inform me what is causing this and tell me how to resolve this issue? Many users are experiencing this phenomenon, not only on the Thinkpad T580 Model, but other models too. Kindly advise ASAP and give us all HOPE, Norton Technical Support.
I wasn't mistaken with my suggestions, quote from my post:
This is a known Lenovo trackpad settings issue that can be easily resolved.
From the article: Maybe you didn't read the article fully down to step #3
3] Change Trackpoint setting (solutions for Lenovo Thinkpad users)
According to the feedback of users, the problem is occurring mostly on Lenovo laptops. Therefore, if you are using a Lenovo laptop, you can try this solution.

The trackpad AND a mouse can cause this issue, per my post. If you have another solution please share.

Just trying to help here, but you are aware that touchpads also have a scroll function on the side? maybe it activates when you touch it in the slightest...
Hello SA:
Thank you for your reply. However, you are mistaken 100%. First of all, I was not using the mouse, just the touchpad; thus there is no scroll button/wheel to inadvertently press down. Secondly, I went ahead performed alot of the suggestions on the Lenovo Community Forum like the one you suggested in disabling the trackpad point, it only went from bad to worse with the cursor having convulsions, slowing laptop responses and eventually freezing. I believe that we are dealing here with a virus/malicious malware encoded on a chip somehow when I visited an unsecured site. If you have read my thread, I have scrubbed the SSD, reinstalled extremely clean image from the Official Lenovo Support website and downloaded any updates necessary from Windows to Lenovo Drivers, Firmware & BIOS directly from either Microsoft.com or Lenovo.com. Thus the Cursor from Hell still persists and lives on.
Regardless, I thank you for your effort in trying to help, even though it was not useful at all.
Take Care & God Bless!
Hello. This is a known Lenovo trackpad settings issue that can be easily resolved. The most common cause is inadvertently pressing the scroll button/wheel on the mouse. This article may help:

Also make sure you have the trackpad set to be disabled when using a USB mouse. Both running at the same time can cause conflicts. Drivers for your devices are located here at this link:
