Multiple pc licence one too many

Earlier this year I renewed my desktop pc version of Nortons 2011 by automatic renewal system. That was for a one year with 287 days remaining on it. This week I have logged on line with my laptop pc and was offerred a 3 year renewal for 3 pc's which I accepted. How can I update my desktop pc to be one of the 3 pc's under the new 3 year licence and at the same time add my wife's desktop to the list of 3 pc's so that she will be covered if / when her machine is occasionally on line? Like cybershark I am a newbie and not very good at this internet stuff. Must be something to do with age and generation. Any help from the youngsters would be greatly appreciated.

whipmaster123 - Welcome to the Community and I hope you get your question answered.  If I understood your question correctly, you had 287 days left on a Norton Products license and you committed to a new 3 year 3 user license.  I hope I'm wrong but from what I've read in these posts, once you accept an auto-renewal, your year starts then and you lose any remaining days you had on your old license.  Most of the renewal suggestions are to wait until you have a few days left and then renew.  If that 3 year renewal gave you a key code, and you haven't entered it yet, you can keep that key code and enter it when your old license is about to expire.    If you have already activated that new license, you might try contacting Customer Support Chat line and perhaps they can help.  Good luck.

It is an interesting question in that if the renewal stayed the same, as a one user licence, the days would be added on rather than lost.  It is only the change to a three user licence that may cause some confusion.  I hope the OP provides details from the Chat that lets us know how it was handled.

delphinium - Did I have it wrong?  Are you saying if you renew your license early, you would keep your days but if you enter a new key, you would lose the days?:smileysad:  That's why I'm called Confused...

Hi PC_confused,

The difference is in how/where you renew. If you renew through the program or your Norton Account, the days will not be lost but instead be added on to your current subscription. If you purchase a subscription renewal through another vendor then you are correct that you would lose any days remaining on your old subscription once you enter the new product key.

whipmaster123, can you clarify that your current subscription is one user and the new one is a 3 user? You can confirm your current license by logging into your Norton Account.

Even if you are going from a 1 user to a 3 user license, if you renewed through the program or your Norton Account I think it will be handled correctly and should add the new subscription period onto the remaining days from your old subscription.

But by all means you should contact Customer Service and confirm this with them before proceeding. Chat is the best option.

Please do let us know what customer service says.

Best wishes.

Allen

Hi whipmaster123,

When you renewed your subscription, were you given a NEW product key? If not, then go to Support > Subscription Status which will cause your Norton software to synchronize with the Symantec server. See if this updates the number of days remaining in your subscription.

If you were given a new product key, then check with Customer Service as mentioned earlier, before proceeding.

Also which Norton software do you have and the version? You can find the version from Support > About.

Best wishes.

Allen

Hello whipmaster123

When you logged on line with your laptop pc, how were you offered a 3 year license for 3 pc's? Who offered you this renewal? Did this offer come by email or thru the program, a popup perhaps? Was that laptop near it's subscription end? Can you give us some more details about this laptop pc please? Thanks.
