My full scan won't complete fully

The scan stops somewhere in the C drive. Once it came to like, 1,600,000 files scanned, now it stops at 360,000 files. I do the full system scan. It caught some viruses recently. I tried to reinstall it, but it isn't working. What could be wrong?

If you like you can follow the thread I'm in entitled "Slow Scan NIS 2012".  I've been experiencing the same stalling issue the last 2 days but today I'm going to get assistance from Tech Support (not just from their regular TS but from their "Elite" TS woohoo...).  They're going to call me and most likely remotely take over my computer and do their thing.  I will update in here as things progress.

In the meantime, you could try some of the things people have suggested to me in the "Slow Scan NIS 2012" thread, e.g. removing and reinstalling NIS using the Norton Removal Tool, disabling the "Compressed Files Scan" and "Network Drives Scan" and then trying the scan, making sure you've completely uninstalled previous security software on your computer, etc..  None of them worked for me but maybe they might for you.

Hi NightRose,

If you are running follow-up scans within a few hours of previous scans, then Norton is simply skipping files that have been scanned earlier and found to be clean.  After you receive the next full virus definitions update, these files will be scanned again so that the latest signatures can be applied.  If you look up one of the scan results in Norton History, click More Details, and expand the Total Items Scanned, it should show you how many files were skipped.
