My last year with Norton

Each year installing 360 on a 3 machine network, it was a pain; nothing went smoothly. In addition, twice in the past year, I have received a Norton error message.

This required working w/ a tech who took over my machine and solved "Norton's initiated problem". This made me an unpaid member of Norton's IT department.

That was all duck soup compared to installing Norton Security w/ Backup on my present 5 machine net. I was going to protect phones also. I would not put this product on a phone for any reason.

Machine 1, my primary computer, Windows 7; Sunday 8-9, installation failed because of a "Norton trial subscription" not activated and not removable. Went through level 1 and level 2 w/ the Philippines spending most of the day. They gave up and kicked it up to level 3 w/ a promise of 72 hours to a solution. That was unacceptable and got worse. It is now 168 hours and Philippine support tells me that level 3 needs 1 to 2 more weeks. Also they cannot tell me where level 3 is or how to contact them. Thus my primary computer is disconnected from the net and used just for spreadsheets. Of course I cannot use advanced functions because they reside online.

Computer 2, a Windows 8, had a problem I cannot remember now; but it got to level 2; many hours lost.

Computer 3, Windows 7 went okay, but NS refuse to let me download a version of Firefox.

Computer 4, Vista downloaded, but knocked out the speakers in the monitor. I have installed external speakers.

Computer 5, no problems I have heard of.

I went through 10 pages of this forum and counted about 1100 issues dealing w/ NS in the title. For 36 pages, that is about 4000 and probably a total of over 10000 including those that did not have NS in the title. How do you stay in business?

I am in the Process Control world where deficient software is not tolerated. If we used Norton quality software, every refinery and chemical unit would have malfunctioned or maybe exploded.
