Everytime i try to run Norton internet securtity 2011 i get an error. I only recently renewed the subscription a few weeks ago and now this has started to happen.
"uistub.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000096). Click on OK to terminate the application"
The same error occurs when i try run the LiveUpdate. I have tried to uninstall norton so i can reinstall it but it gets stuck on initializing norton and doesnt load. I have tried to download the Norton Uninstal tool but the link doesnt to work when i click onto it. Please help.
Have you rebooted lately? Some updates require a reboot to take affect.
If that did not work, you can try clicking on Support - Get Support. This will run Autofix, that will check your installation and try to fix anything it finds.
If that does not work, you should reinstall.
Try to download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from here. This is not just the removal tool you were looking for.
This should remove your installation and reinstall the same version for you.
Be sure to run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
This has not seemed to have helped. I downloaded the Norton remove and install program but this also came up with an error
"Could not download the installer layout"
Ive also rebooted my computer a few times to see if any updates waiting or to take effect. This made no different to The norton program not working. I cannot acces the autofix because my norton program as a whole wont even run due to this error i have been getting. Is there anyway in which i can uninstall this program? Even if i try to manualy uninstall it via add/remove programs it gets stuck on initializing norton since norton can't even run properly. Have you got any more ideas on what i can do?
At this point in time, I would suggest you attempt to remove NIS via add/remove programs and if it fails as it has in the past, just go ahead and download and run the Norton Removal Tool. Backup (export) your ID Safe Data if you haven't already - once again if you can get into the settings to accomplish it prior to attempting the removal.
Once the NRT runs, reboot and then install NIS from here:
Cheers for your help ive managed to get rid of norton completely and my computer has started to function properly know. I tried the Norton remove and reinstall tool again and it worked. But how would i go about getting Norton internet security back onto my computer because it came up with another error after i restarted my computer when it was trying to reinstall it via the tool.

Anyway thanks for your help
Have you tried the manual way? See my earlier post here:
Once installation is complete, open NIS and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates available". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates available" and then reboot one last time.
Once totally updated, don't forget to Restore/Import your ID Safe data.
Ive downloaded and run the NRT and rebooted after it was complete. However after i downloaded i new copy of NIS it started doing the same thing as before; closing after 2 -5 seconds when i tried to install the program. Is there any other way to try to reinstall NIS?
OK - thanks for trying that. Let's try to get some basic background info and try to reacess your situation:
Which operating system and SP # are you using? (XP, SP3 or Win 7 SP1 are examples of the info we are looking for))
Do you have any other Security programs currently installed?
MalwarebytesAntiMalware Pro, SuperAntiSpyware Pro, Spybot S & D (with Tea-tmer enabled) etc, or any other anti virus programs (Avast, MSE,Kapersky etc)?
Did you have anything out of the ordinary going on (with NIS) before you renewed?
Have you recenlty run a Registry Cleaner or perhaps CCleaner?
Any info yu can give us will hopefully help.
Sorry for all the questions, but the more info the better for us.
My operating system is XP and i have SP3 installed. I currently do not have any other security programs installed. I ahve tried to get AVAST but that to came up with an error when i was trying to install it. Before i renewed the subsription all prgrams were working fine. Just after about 3-4 weeks after renewing it it started doing that error ive talked about and thats when norton stopepd working. I have not recently run a registry cleaner or CCleaner but since you have meansioned it, i may do that.

I do not think Yank was suggesting for you to run a registry cleaner, he was just wondering if you had run one that might have messed something up and started causing your problems.
As you tried to install Avast, it may have been able to get far enough along with the installation that some bits are actually there and conflicting with Norton. Try running the Avast removal tool found here.
