Thanks DWM is working but the Protection Report is not working on my control panel - I also went to the link provided - I went to the drop down menu, found this device and it said Data is unavailable for this device Help please
and “this device” is Windows 11/10?
and “this device” is powered up? and connected to the internet?
and you’ve run Norton LiveUpdate + Restart (not Shut down) “this device”?
and you’ve confirmed “this device” has Norton 360 → Remote Management = on/green?
Norton 360 → Settings → General → Remote Management
and you’ve tried Troubleshooting…“this device”?
fwiw ~ my boiler plate:
If your Norton is not working as expected and you’ve tried Troubleshooting → Reset to Default &or Repair Norton & clean re-install Norton 360…then…reach out to Norton support.
Note: Reset to Default resets Cloud Backup
Download and run the Norton 360 Remover tool for Windows here
DLXM - getting alert every boot now - opened about 20 minutes ago - the report appears in the control panel and, from memory, it does state something like collecting data but you have to scroll down to to actually access the data. Will keep note next time. Used to be a way to ignore alerts, not now. I have 2 ignored alerts which are both covered by Windows anyway, there also used to be way to delele ignored allerts - not now. From on-line account DWM etc all available.
As an asside, had a word with my computer guru about something else, he was not very complimentary about Norton.
mgirons & anyone else including Norton - While the DWM is working, the device security is still saying ‘we are gathering your information’. I ran the troubleshoot and then repair and got nothing. I am not going to the trouble of uninstalling, cleaning and reinstalling, then changing all the settings on my Norton as the website here says ‘date is currently unavailable for this device’ - it does this for all my devices from the dropdown menu. This therefore must be a glitch on Norton itself - any thoughts?
No new alert this morning - fingers crossed will remain so to end June when monthly report should be issued with-in GUI, can access info directly from logging into account. Does not say so but I assume the DWM there is in real time. On line - straight in to info- no gathering info notification. Had V25 since last October, from community seems still numerous issues being reported by us PAYING customers. Why change something that is not broken.
Looks as though alert comes up virtually every day, alert this morning, Brings up in GUI Device Security - DWM - Cloud Back Up
Yawn - still getting this on the website - Can someone from Norton please give me some help as this is getting kinda tedious now - and the app is still saying ‘gathering information’ - The dropdown works for one of my mobile phones but not the other four devices including this laptop

You & me are in the same boat -same result as you. Time to move on I think, need to get a security app that woks. Did not help, logged on 30-40 minutes ago - Norton put me on PUBLIC instead of PRIVATE - 2nd time in last few days - Norton 360 seems to getting WORSE lately - not worth it even if it was FREE.
Had various issues since auto updated to V25.5.10141 BEFORE anouncement from NortonV25.5.10141 - another BAD update - what is going on at Norton? We are PAYING for this rubbish.
I want Public.
Norton changes me from Public to Private.
Go figure!?
No alert this morning - can get reports on-line today - what is going on at Norton - seem to have lost their way again
I know - very browned off - no help or suggestions from Norton for ages
How do you see whether you are public or private?
Just to say it all over again - the Norton Website is continually locked on ‘Data is currently unavailable for this device’.
My app is locked in ‘Currently gathering your data’ for the alerts.
Please for the umpteenth time - can someone from Norton fix this issue
My setting is Private - if it changes to Public it will show in you Home GUI window with ‘Change to Public’ (which does not work by the way) - yesterday also an Alert - never seen that before.
It will also be recorded in Recent History as to wheter set to Private/Public. Actual setting is in Security/Advanced/Smart Firewall/Network tab then Network at top can be toggled. But if it has changed to Public from Private - you cannot change here - you have to reboot/restart & normally it will return to your settings, had one occassion when it did not but the toggle switch then become live. Had a subsequent alert this morning - took me to full GUI report.

AI Overview
A public network is generally accessible to anyone and often uses the internet as its backbone, while a private network is restricted to specific users or organizations and offers greater security and control. Public networks like Wi-Fi hotspots are easily accessible but can pose security risks, while private networks, like those in homes or businesses, are more secure but require greater management.
Public Networks:
- Accessibility: Open to anyone, often with minimal restrictions.
- Examples: Wi-Fi connections at cafes, airports, and hotels.
- Security: Lower security, more vulnerable to cyber threats.
- Cost: Typically lower cost, as infrastructure is shared.
- Control: Less control over network settings and access.
Private Networks:
- Accessibility: Restricted to specific users or organizations.
- Examples: Home networks, corporate networks, and VPNs.
- Security: Higher security, with firewalls and other measures.
- Cost: Can be more expensive to build and maintain.
- Control: More control over network settings and access.

AI Overview
For a home network that includes devices you own and trust, set your network to Private. This makes your device discoverable by other devices on the network, allowing for file and printer sharing. However, for public Wi-Fi or networks you don’t trust, set it to Public. This hides your device from other network users, enhancing security.
-
Private Network:
- Suitable for your home network where you want to share files and printers.
- Makes your device discoverable by other devices on the network.
- Requires trust in the devices and users on the network.
- Allows for file and printer sharing.
-
Public Network:
- Recommended for public Wi-Fi hotspots, libraries, cafes, or any network you don’t fully control.
- Hides your device from other devices on the network, increasing security.
- Limits file and printer sharing with other unknown devices.
- Windows often defaults to Public for these reasons, as it’s a more secure setting for untrusted networks according to Microsoft Community.
In summary, choose Private for your trusted home network and Public for untrusted networks to balance the benefits of file sharing and security.

Much appreciated - many networks that are used outside of my home were set to public - all set to private now. Thanks a lot for the heads up
Hello @DLXM
~ btw
Public is more restrictive/secure
vs
Private is less restrictive/secure
Thanks for letting me know about that - will change restrictions
Just to restart the original purpose of this thread is - The Norton Website is continually locked on ‘Data is currently unavailable for this device’.
My app is locked in ‘Currently gathering your data’ for the alerts.
