N360 Backup - By File Extension

I have some game configuration files that I want to back up. The problem is that the files get moved every time the game is patched. I need N360 to back up these files by file extension regardless of which subfolder they are currently in. Is there an easy way to do that?

Thank you.

Hi JavaGeek,

You can refer the following document for detailed steps for configuring backup given by Andmike

Adding or editing a file extension in a backup file category

Thank you both for your replies. I found this option, and added the file extension that I wanted to back up. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be any coorelation between these file extensions and the included files and folders. I want to backup all the files with that extension in a certain subtree, but I can't seem to choose that option. It seems to be all or nothing.

Hi JavaGeek

You're correct. In this particular instance it's either all files with that extension or none. The only way you can specify a particular directory is to use the Include Folder option. It may be worth submitting a support ticket with the game manufacturer. Ask if there is a way to prevent it from moving the files around. It seems kind of counterintuitive for it to do that.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

I'm still not sure I understand. What I want to do is back up all of the *.ini and *.properties files in a specific subtree. I created a new backup set, selected those file types, and included the two subtrees where the file would exist. It seems to be backing up the entire subtree, not just the file types I included. Does that make sense?

Hi JavaGeek

I'm guessing you may have added the specific file types in as well as individually selected the directories. If yes, that'd explain why it's doing what you're seeing happen. Can you please post screenshots of the settings?

Yes, that's what I did. I want to backup files with a certain extension, but ONLY in a specific subtree, not in all of the folders that are included in the backup. I don't want the entire subtree backed up. I only want the files with specific extensions. It seems like this should be an easy thing to do.

I added the file extensions to the Other Files type because I couldn't add my own type.

I can't attach an image to this post to show you my settings.

Unfortunately it's only going to let you do one or the other but not both. It's a limitiation of the program.

OK, thanks. That's what I needed to know. That would be nice for a future version. Until then, I'll figure something else out, like maybe use a batch file to copy the files to one folder and then back that whole folder up.
