Perhaps someone out there has had a similar melody of issues as me.
I am running windows Vista with all the latest updates. I had N360 v1 for an older XP machine which sadly died.
I used the N360v1 cd to install and enter my licence code. But there was no completion window and the N360 reported everything as not working. It asked me to download updates to v2. This I did and installed but that just stopped the N360 main window from opening at all.
After numerous attempts to remove it, using uninstall, Norton removal tool and returning to a restore point.
I read that some people had downloaded the trial version and entered their existing licence code. I tried this but it did not ask me for the licence code = same problem N360 main window and windows gadgets have stopped running! Tried to run Norton chat but this ended in error.
Again back to a restore point.
Download chat and this time it worked (i.e. without N360). Managed to get hold of one technician who took control of my PC.
Changed windows to do a clean boot, then proceeded to download N360v2 and this seemed to go OK and even resulted in a completion message asking me to reboot. But the success was short lived and again N360 main window would not open, gadgets have disappeared again and windows welcome centre or update no longer work. They downloaded the SymLMTS to check for errors but this reported zero errors, then another tool to check something else which I could not see,SCANSTUB and MAINSTUB and LUALL - live update this seemed to download and install. But even after more reboots there was no joy.
After more than 5 hours we were no further ahead. So we ended it there at 3am. I have since received an email saying that if the problem was not resolved contact them again using the Chat session but this no longer works. Obviously they did not read the problem log. So an email has been sent to support. - and I am still waiting.
It shouldn't be difficult to load N360 on a brand new PC.! or am I just kidding myself.
Well I have now received a further 2 emails from Norton technicians asking if the problem has been resolved and if I require further assistance.
5 days and counting to get this issue resolved.
I sent you a PM about this, look in ‘Messages’ at the top of this page.
Hi Johna,
Has there been a solution to this as Im having the same issue and cannot launch the main window?
I now have a problem with the vista personalization window (which is not launching since I downloaded N360 V2 as well as the Norton main window)
i have the same problem the main window wont open but instead it opens the initilization configuration wizard and then just closes.
This last post sounds like an incomplete install. The best thing to do for this would be to run the NRT (Norton Removal Tool) and start with a clean install, that should solve your issue.
Matt
Numerous attempts to install N360 have failed spectacularly!
I have left contact details with Symantec on all calls for them to contact me but I am still waiting. But I did get a request to complete a survey after my call was closed, but the link to the survey had been stopped.
I sent an email asking who to escalate the issue to? - company secretary, director, etc. and yet to get a reply.
If anyone knows of a solution then maybe they could let us all know. Although I think my subscription has now expired!
This is not good
I have always been a fan of Norton in the past but I now have to consider requesting my money back (if that's possible) I have followed the details above and did the same as Martin44. I have Un-installed and reinstalled 6 times (All directly from the symantec web site) All without success! All with the same problem...Main window will not open!
After I installed norton 360 v2 I had other problems with other programs like sidebar not working etc... I was able to sort this out by following this link http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/546747-solved-vista-sidebar-gadgets-won.html , however I am still not able to launch Norton 360 Main window and this is now almost 2 weeks since I purchased the product
My pc is only 3 weeks old with the following:
Intel® Core™ 2 Quad Q9450 Quad Core Processor(2.66GHz,12MB Cache,1333MHz)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium Edition with SP 1
PCI-Express Mainboard - Core2Duo/Quad Core/Penryn ATX
4GB DDR2 800MHz Memory (2x 2GB)
500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive with 16MB Buffer
Is there a compatibility issue????
has anyone got any idea or do I request my money back Please help!

Hi SN,
Firstly, here is the link for the product refunds:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/cs/dtree.jsp?id=returns
Before you return the product, you may want to contact our Customer Support team to help resolve the issue for you:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp
I apologize if you have already contacted support and were not able to resolve the issue.
Thank you Tony for your Quick respones.
I will try customer support one more time.
No, it is not meant to be that difficult..that sounded like a real slog.
If I were you I would contact support by phone, where it is much quicker, and you can interact more easily while you both view what is happening by remote. If necessary, the technician will escalate the issue to a higher level support tech, whilst you are still on the phone, and he will follow the matter through until it is resolved.
Good luck!
