Error: "Intrusion Prevention failed to load" (3043,1) appears on Norton 360 Version 4.0
Carried out live update as recommended and it installed Norton 2010 virus defs and Norton 2010 pulse updates after which I carried out a restart.
This continues in a continuous loop after every restart. and I get the following two details on the main window describing the issues:
intrusion protection - your pc is not protected from intrusion attempts
browser protection - your browser is not protected from intrusion attempts
"fix all" only seems to fix the browser issue, and prompt me to run live update.
History:
Recently upgraded from NSW2009 to N360 V4.0, and first encountered this issue, the Norton tamper protection will not stay on and I get SONAR definitions errors. Carried out online chat support with a Symantec support person, and even had them remote into my machine to "fix" the issue.
He removed N360 using the Norton Removal Tool and reinstalled the first time using my CD and key, then the second time he downloaded N360 and repeated the process. Each time it installed just fine (IE. Norton tamper protection is on and working, and no SONAR issues) and did not fail until the second run of Live update which installed the update to Version 4.2.0.12, although he kept trying to tell me all was okay now after he installed! I managed to convince him both times to stay with this issue until live update installed the 4.2.0.12 update, which he replied that the version number didn't matter and that the issue was not with live update.
It was only on the second attempt and at my forceful request to watch what happens after the reboot following the 4.2.0.12 update that he finally attempted to perform a safe boot and check the start up routine of my machine. However, in his attempts he managed to corrupt my MBR to the point that I could not log on any more and got BSODs! I have now rebuilt my machine again ( had to format the HDD and reinstall windows completely, thank god I have back ups of all my important files!).
So here I am after reading numerous forums and suggestions (make sure IE8 "smart Screen Filter " is off, check permissions on all my files, carry out the standard Symantec Remove and Re-install routine a million times.......) with a clean windows install, no other software or older versions to contend with, and I am right back to where I started!!!!
Initial install of N360 v4.0 works great, I get everything working and it is showing a version of 4.1.0.32, I carry out the first live update and again no change in version and all is well in the world. I go through all the settings to make sure they are how I want them and reboot the PC. On restart and logon, I carry out the 2nd live update. This is the nasty one that downloads the 4.2.0.12 version update and pooches my machine! As soon as I logon I get the looping errors noted above for intrusion and browser protection( by looping I mean that I carry out the "fix it" and it prompts for a live update which corrects one of the two and prompts for a reboot, on restart it starts all over). Norton tamper protection will not start and occasionally I get a Mod 3040, error 10057 error for SONAR definitions and error id 65553, mod 3039, SONAR Errorcode 0x80640011. I also get EVID 7026 Service control manager errors stating that the SymIRON, BHDrvx86, and SRTSP services could not start in my system event logs.
I have followed the standard Symantec response of "uninstall and re-install using the removal tool" about ten times with the same results, I have even gone through the registry and cleaned our anything resembling "Norton or Symantec" after each removal.
Now the confusing and frustrating part of this is that I have another pc with the exact same hardware config and windows version ( Win XP Pro SP3 with latest patches done) and it installed and took the 4.2.0.12 update just fine and Norton tamper protection works on it!
Any ideas? I'm getting tired of the "Ground hog day" effect and need this resolved. There must be something other than uninstall and reinstall as this isn't working. By the way, my PC was working fine before I went to N360 on it!
Thanks,
