N360 / Norton Antivirus❓

I’ve enabled ‘Windows Verbose Boot & Shutdown‘ on my device, On ‘boot-up‘, screen prompts now informs me what’s going on in real time, the actions that Windows is sequentially performing to liven up the device. All good :white_exclamation_mark:

On ‘shutdown‘, the reverse applies. I noticed a Shutting Down Services : Norton Antvirus; specifically, not N360.
I do appreciate that N360 is a progression from previous guises of Norton security offerings.
Why doesn’t the on screen prompt display the legend Shutting Down Services : Norton 360 :red_question_mark::thinking:

Any info / observations would be appreciated.

What Windows versions are you referring to? Setting this requires a registry edit if I am not mistaken. Two different Norton products may not behave in the same manner as the other as well.

SA

I’m running N 360 25.8.10387 (build 25.8.10387.947) on W11 Home 24H2 Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.197.0
I did modify a ‘Registry Entry’ to enable this facility. My 15.6” screen is a big, in my face, Norton advert screen. It ought to read correctly🤔

Just another question in our attempt for a solution. Do you have or has your scaling / resolution been changed in Windows recently that you are aware of? My laptops are running 17" screens and PC’s both daily duster and gamers are running 32" and 45" monitors respectively. I cannot duplicate the issue my side even with resolution as low as 800 x 600. .

The Scale indicated in System is : 125% (Recommended). The Resolution is 1920 x 10180 (Recommended).

I was viewing some Windows Registry Tweaks on YouTube, with a view to making my device less secretive & quicker.
I applied the ‘Verbose Startup/Shutdown Messages Tweak‘ and got the correct posted results. Lots of good info on what’s happening, as the device Boots / Shutdown.
Nothing Norton on the screen at boot; only shutdown🤔

I’ve 3 old sacrificial devices that W11 will force retire. So, try all the stuff you wouldn’t do to a ‘No1 Daily Driver’, while you are able. I’ve DBAN at the ready, for devices leaving my influence⁉️ My local Tech Shop is willing to take the non-devices as spares and parts for the store🤑

Camera at the ready. I managed to image the Shutdown Screen Norton Antivirus, not Norton 360, alternatively not N 360.

Paying for N360; but, what’s coming down the pipe❓

I’ve loaded ‘Verbose‘ on 4-devices. All indicating :plus:Shutting Down Services : Norton Antivirus:plus:

Ahead of the migration to W11, as I’ve 2-devices on W11. I’ve been assessing the devices to ditch.
While clearing out my No3; in the Registry I found 111-Norton Security entries and 7-Norton Antivirus entries. Deleted the lot. A bit drastic❔NO❕It’s one of the devices for the chop. Although it functions, it takes 4-hours on MS Updates to complete and anytime MS grabs it for maintenance, it’s unusable.

As for the Registry ‘Norton Antivirus’ notation. I found 4-more with the ‘Icarus’ legend; so, I let ‘em stay.

RETIARIUS : NETMAN

If you check your Task Manager for Norton processes you will see 360 and Norton Antivirus listed. Expanding the items shows Norton Tools listed under Norton Antivirus. So it appears that Norton is just recycling code from earlier versions when there is no value gained for re writing all new code.

I did spot where NA is in all my devices. Nothing an apprentice coder couldn’t put right, to make the products shine⁉️
