Recently re-installed N360 V2 due to backup problems. Backup problems have been resolved but the Right click backup options ("qadd to backup" & "Exclude from backup") are no longer available for selction. The "Scan Now" option is active.
How do I re-enable the backup options?
Also - The icons depicting the status of each file backup is no longer visible. The option to turn this item on has been selected in N360 settings.
If the options to backup are grayed out(inactive) when you right-click on a file/folder, then you may have to Configure the Backup Seettings in Norton 360 2.0 properly. This issue may happen if the Backup settings are not properly set.
Run a manual Backup for a particular set of files, say only the Office documents or Pictures to your HD itself and check whether you are able to get the option for any of those files after running the Backup.
I have the same problem under XP. However, I dont have the problem on all XP machines. I have also tried deregistering and reregistering bushell.dll but the options remains greyed and their are no flags.
I have tried changing the backup location to a local hard drive. Selecting files that have been backed up does not activate the backup options on right click.
I apologize for the delay in response but I have some information for you. It appears there are 2 issues here as follows:
1. The backup options on the right click menu are missing
2. The backup overlays on files are missing
We are working towards releasing a fix for issue 1 soon, however, I do not have an eta. As for issue 2, we are aware of the issue and are investigating it. As soon as I hear any updates on either of these 2 issues I will either reply to this thread or private message you.
Kind of a twist on the same... I have an HP with a C, D, and E drives. C drive has all my windows stuff, my docs, my pics, etc... That's the drive I want to back up. E has a ton of files that I do not want to back up.
I cannot get the Backup to exclude the E drive. In quick backup it tells me that it will only backup 6K files (11 Gb) and then tries to backup 17K files and 80+ Gb. Yet when I try and find all the extra stuff I can't find it.
In Full backup I can see where it is using drive E but to exclude all that data would mean de-selecting every file... which would be a huge pain in the butt not to mention time consuming. So I tried the Explorer right click and go to Norton 360 and Exclude from backup... Its greyed out...
I uninstalled and re-installed... To my joy I now had those options in Explorer.... then I tried to back up again and low and it started with the 17K files on E allll over again and now the options in Explorer are greyed out again...
The help and support link even specifically says that the full backup and the quick backup maintain separate lists and yet this keeps happening...
Sorry to bump one on its way to the graveyard but I would like to subscribe for a response too as I have the same problem of the right click menus being greyed out. XP SP3
Seems like I have the same problem. Made a Backup of two folders and after that I can see this right click option "add to backup" and "exclude from backup" options of norton 360. But they are greyed out. I just can use the Scan functionality of this 3 options. btw. it is a backup on a external usb hard drive. Hope this will be solved asap.
A questions besides: Does the Norton 360 v.3 will be available for v.2 users for free? I would recommend that.
Yesterday a patch was released that fixes the right click menu options to "Add to Backup" and "Exclude from Backup" Please run LiveUpdate until it no longer detects available updates (rebooting when requested).
gabedot,
Please refer to this link for your question regarding upgrading from Norton 360v2 to v3
Thanks. I can confirm that the greyed out options have reappeared. However, some comments if you will permit please.
1. I cannot confirm that the use of the "Add to Backup" feature within Explorer actually works. Alas I see no change in the Backup settings, Files to backup, no of files and size when I select a particular file to backup.
2. When you first access BAckup Settings it takes some time for the system to be scanned for files to backup, and during the period, it is far to easy to get Norton 360 v2 to crash or freeze.
3. It is interesting that you ask users to run LiveUpdate, because it seems to me that despite the automatic liveupdate taking place hourly (inbuilt feature) that it does not always download updates. In this case, on an idle machine the update to which you refer was not downloaded and installed until I forced a liveupdate as you suggested. I similarly often run LUALL because it often then downloads and installs updates which are otherwise simply not installed. This has, in my opinion, always been the case with Norton 360 but does not appear to arise in other Norton products that I have or have tested.
