1. Yes. The number of files in the directrories is several thousand.

2. I can access the files - view them, but of course I can't open them. I didn't try renaming them as .mp3's as i understand that they are encrypted.

3. When I went to the Rescue interface, it worked, but as i stated earlier, it only found some metadata - a dozen playlists, based on usage. There were no errors. I think that restore thought it had done what it was supposed to...

4. I back up to an external 160GB HD, with a USB cable

I appreciate your interest and efforts.

Thanks,

Jim,

I just sent you a private message with my contact info. Look at the upper right of the screen and you will see a link to your profile's mailbox.

Thanks,

Recovery Problem: I backed up my 13,000 mp3's and when I went to recover them, they were inaccessible. I asked the chat support to help, but they were unable to recover them, as well - although they told me they had been successful.

The external HD has 160 GB of storage, and has a file called N360_BACKUP, containing a single folder labeled {39F59DEE-FEB9-4131-BEC6-8440EFA72ADC}. Inside it are 15 folders labeled 0-10 and A-F, and a single, 10KB file named backup@db.  Inside each of these folders are thousands of files - my music - but they are labled with inscrutable names - like the folder name, above.

When I (or the chatline support) used the Recovery function from N360, we were told I have 12 music files and one Office Document (in the 129 GB). The 'music' files are all of the type .wpl (windows playlist).

I need to know if it is possible to recover the real music files, or not. If not, I don't want to waste any more time trying, but I would like to know what I did wrong to get into this mess so I don't dso it again.

If they can be recovered, HOW?  I've tried all the suggestions on this site, to no avail.  Please help.

Many thanks again,

Jim Berglund

Jim,

If you were to right-click on the {39F59DEE-FEB9-4131-BEC6-8440EFA72ADC} folder and click properties does the number of files (and size) roughly match what you were expecting to see (13,000 or so if it was only music)?

Also, when you say they were innaccessible what do you mean?  You went into the N360 Restore UI and could not find the files?  Was there an error?

What type of location were you backing up to?  Online? Local Disk (if so, internal harddrive, external USB drive?), CD/DVD, or Network drives?

Hopefully with this info I can come up with some ideas to help you,

Adam
