N360 v20.3 constant crashes, from main console

Is anyone else experiencing constant crashes with v20.3? this started a few days ago (typical since i just renewed for 3 yrs). when i click something from the main console screen, nothing comes up, then it crashes and i have to use the task manager to "close" the program. I'v done several re-installs using the RnR tool already. also done the "get support" link (which will fix and "installation" issue but on the next reboot, same loop. I've also run live update many times. I am using Win7 64bit, nothing has changed on the machine (now new installed programs/updates etc). the prior version ran just fine which is why i went for the 3yr renewal. the RnR tool will only reinstall 20.3 so i can't revert back. basically the program runs fine if i DON"T click anything from teh main console page (i right-click the sys tray icon to run live update/get support) Anyone have any tips to try. this is very frustrating! thanks.

Hi rick_s,

Not sure if this will work for you or not - ut moght be worth a try.

To the best of my knowledge, 20.3 is still not available  via LiveUpdate, so if you do a clean install as follows, it should not LU to 20.3.

If you use Identity Safe for your Logins, please back it up (export) the data so it can be Restored (Imported) after you install a fresh copy of N 360.

Plese remove the copy of N 360 you have installed, using the Control Panel uninstall via Programs & Features.  Reboot.

Download and run the Norton Remvoal Tool once and reboot after it is completed. The NRT can be found here: https://www-secure.symantec.com/norton-support/jsp/help-solutions.jsp?docid=kb20080710133834EN_EndUserProfile_en_us&lg=english&ct=united+states&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home&entsrc=redirect_pubweb   Please not the Norton Removal Tool is a different tool than the NRnRT that you used before - it cleans up any remanents of the uninstall to provide a cleaner system to start the new install on.

Download a fresh copy and install:

www.norton.com/n360s_20 (Standard Edition)

or

www.norton.com/n360p_20 (Premiere Edition)

Once installation is complete, open N 360 and manually Run LiveUpdate as many times as necessary for it to respond "no more updates found". If a reboot is requested, reboot and then continue to Run LiveUpdate until it responds "no more updates found" and then reboot one last time.

Once totally updated, don't forget to Restore/Import your ID Safe data.

Please keep us posted.

THANKS for the link!!! I will give it a try. I've done what you described earlier, but wasn't able to get the older version. the one from my norton account kept downloading/installing 20.3.  I hope this works! i can't believe no one else is having any similar issues. it ran just fine up until the "update", and nothing else has changed on my machine. anyway, will give it a shot. thanks again!!:)

oh so close!! well the v20.1 worked great! but, after the 3rd live update/restart....v20.3 was installed. and brought back the "symanted system framework not responding" crash. so i guess there is something with 20.3 and my machine that's wonky:( Thanks for the help though. it did work!! (up until 20.3 came back)

So you are saying that 20.3 came to you via LiveUpdate?  I wonder if it is available again? Apparently so!

I guess you could  try the  Support > Get Support again.

You may want to run a scan with MBAM Free

I got the 20.3 update at least 2 days ago.

OP: I started this thread recently http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/N360-I-O-Overhead/m-p/922705#U922705

I don't know if our symptoms are similar, though. My issue is high I/O activity, which ties my system up to the extent that I can't do anything unless I turn on Silent Mode. It also causes the Symantec System Framework isn't responding message.

yep, 20.3 came via Live update. hmm at lest now, the "get support" autofix doesn't find any issues to "fix". program only crashes when clicking something from the main screen. i hope the next patch will address this. once i do a ctrl-alt-delte, start task manager, i can close it that way.

I have the same problem, but the main console disappears so quickly I cannot even figure out which version of N360 I am running.  Live update and Quickscan "appear" to work, but cannot get to the console for anything...

Hi Nottingham3,

Go to the Control Panel > Programs & Features (Add/Remove programs in XP), scroll to your N 360 product and you should be able to see the version number on the righthand side.

I've reverted back again to version 20.1., and it is running just fine!! not a single crash yet. guess will see when 20.3 is live updated/installed again.

yes, I also have 20.3.0.36 dated 3/3/13

well, live update as downloaded/installed 20.3, and what do you know, hello crashes again!!!! how do we fix this "symantec system framework not responding" issue?!?!?

I have N360 v20.3 and the same is happening to me when I try to run full scans. The scan can sometimes run and complete, but the rest of the windows are frozen and Windows 7 Pro asks me if I want to wait or stop the program. I find it very unnerving that the program that is supposed to be protecting my computer must be stopped, apparently leaving my computer defenseless until it restarts itself. This was not a problem on earlier versions.

Hi

I had a similar probem with Windows 7 64 bits and I posted a workaround that fixed my issue.

Maybe it will work for you.

Best of luck!

And it's posted where?
