Startup Scan ?
Does it mirror; alternatively, totally different from any of the MS Command Prompt Scans, that have been around for a long while:-
CHKDSK ¦ SFC ¦ DISM
Is Startup Scan, a completely technologically new offering from Norton ?
remember, Boot Time Protection from v22
Startup Scan is akin to Boot Time Protection where scan starts early in boot sequence.
Bonjour,
Cordialement,
I have not set it up, but it still used to run at boot. Has not actually run because I have to cancel before closing down. Have not tried not cancelling, before cancelling, it used to run on each boot, had to cancel by pressing esc. each time. Quite a number of items in V24.xxx you cannot turn off
All: I ran a startup scan a few days ago just to get an idea of what it does. My experience with the scan is it takes place in a part of the BIOS and checks flags there. Then before handing things off to the OS scans the kernel level files of the entire OS drive. It took more than 20 minutes for the scan to complete. The scan doesn’t call the OS flags for SFC and other commands as it is performed prior to OS hand off.

Bonsoir @SoulAsylum

You’re most welcome.

Hello @mgirons
I’ve seen Startup Scan run when I set up the scan to run.
Are you reporting Startup Scan runs when you do not set up the scan to run?
I only see [Press Esc to bypass scanning] when I set up the scan to run.
Yes - have never set up, never clicked the button to what is involved. Initial install 30th September, Ok for first 2-3 weeks then suddenly appeared one morning on boot, assume if do set it up would not show the set-up button option but notification already set up button instead. Also assuming by pressing button would bring an options selection menu etc.
Hmm…so one time…or every boot?
and what DIY have you tried?
For a few boots, after it started, it runon every boot/restart & I cancelled with ESC. Then I cottoned on, cancelling stopped it, have not tried not cancelling. Then there was the issue of Software Updater updating a couple of things although Auto-Updater was OFF and still was when I double checked. Version 24.xx seems a loose canon now…
Just thinking back - bad sign. Initial auto install of 24.xx on 30th. Sept, that’s when had errors with big red X in tray icon at that time & with issue in Windows security some-where. At that time, with-in app was a REMOVE button, that tried to run NRnR with an error, uninstalled thru’ Windows & installed via downloading from my account. Since then Windows installed apps showing as attached. Being bit of a nerd, check these once/twice a week, list them by installed date so latest always at top. The 3 following the 30th are Norton auto updates, but, as you see, shows same version number. The one on 15th Oct would have been very close to when the first Start-Up scan featured on boot was noticed - co-incidence?
From About - 24.10.9535. - build 24.10.9535.882
where may I find
=====================================
=====================================
My v24 About reports version 24.10.9535 (build 24.10.9535.881)
When my v24 was 24.10.9535.880…I noticed users mention .881
LiveUpdate was not pulling .881
Restart was not pulling .881
After I ran NRnR and an extra Restart…my v24 was .881
Now, I wonder whether LiveUpdate or an extra Restart will bring .882?
==============================================
Where did I put my v24 User Guide?
I’m in UK, always seem to get these things before most of you. Likewise all updates on the old 22.xx & before they were announced. Likewise 24.xx that seemed to come through before any-one - judging by when new forum threads being posted. Evidently, first auto update on 30th September a pre/pre- release!
Okay…but, where are you finding
v24 Announcement - 10 Sept

My initial v24 install was pulled from my Norton account.
Edit: back to the Startup Scan issue
I’m only seeing Startup Scan [here] when I invoke Startup Scan
How do you invoke it: Pressed SETUP - just brings up the Cancel option screen. Thought there would be various options as was for 22.xxx
click → Set Up
Set Up…calls
Cancel scan…calls
Cancel…calls
