ZA and NAV have served me well for many years together on many, many systems with the layered security approach I use. It's what works best for you and I know many security forms where they will tell you NAV is bottom on the list. I don't agree.
I realize there are many third party firewall out there. But the question was ... Do you know of any playing well with NAV 2009 on a XP SP3 box.
I have a router in my system so I have the hardware firewall of that and since I use NIS I have its software firewall .....
Perhaps changing over to NIS would be a solution that would not involve third party firewalls?
Very true huwyngr. But Comodo is great and so is Online Ammor. They are both compatible with NAV. NIS 2009 has great reviews and is very powerful itself. I find it easier using an all in one solution rather then keeping an eye on 1 anti virus and 1 firewall. Both Online Armor and Comodo have HIPS so you will get alot of pop ups till all your programs are learned.
Thanks for your replies and I have tried NIS once or twice on a trial. Just never got to comfortable with it. I guess it's about what you are used too and works for you.
I am also behind a router so feel pretty safe even without a firewall. I just like to know what going out from my box. There are legit things I don't want phoning home until I'm good and ready for them to you know?
Comado and Online Ammor you know are working well with NAV 09 on XP box?
I'm aware of the problem with NAV 2009 and ZA free firewall. Those two programs have been on many systems though the years and served me well. Strange both the two together work fine on my Vista box. But couldn't even boot my XP box with the two of them on there *sigh*. Had to go to safe mode and uninstall ZA.
Does anyone know of a third party firewall for alerting me to outbound connections that works well with NAV 2009 on XP SP3? Any advise would be appreciated.
Yes Comodo and Online Armor work well with NAV. I am also behind a hardware firewall but you need a software firewall also.
Where did you here about a problem with Zone Alarm Free and NAV. There is tons of 3rd party free firewalls. ZA is on the bottom of the list. Comodo is the first choice and Online Armor is my second choice.
