NAV did not block worm

I received an email supposedly from my sister. It said it had a way of finding out who had blocked or deleted you from their IM list. I clicked on the link but at the time I didn't know that the link was: [Removed]

So when like an idiot I clicked on the link, it took me some place strange. The screen started to paint something that looked like it was going to be a list of email addresses but then it went blank and put up a screen offering to turn my photo in a caricature. If that had been all that happened I wouldn't have thought much of it, however, about twenty-minutes later I received an email from myself which was identical to the one I received earlier except for two changes. One, the subject line was slightly different but the message was the same. The other difference was the link:

[Removed]

A day later I received an email from a person that was on my IM contact list who responding to an email that the worm sent. Fortunately she had not clicked on the link which I think executed the worm. In my research on this matter I found sites that offered programs to search and find out if you had been blocked. However, this thing has taken on its on life of its own, and it took over my computer and may still be in there and active. But I have a theory that it only sends itself to people listed as IM contacts. I never got into IM and only had about six in the list. I have emailed these people about my experience and to be on the lookout for any unusual events on their computers.

Now why the (blank) didn't my NAV block this worm?
