I have a question and It involves media player programs, websites and Nortn Antivirus 2008.
I have a Vista OS with Vista service pack 1 on an HP desk top with DSL
Using Norton AntiVirus 2008
On my machine since it is a vista I have the Windows Media Player (not sure what version) and real player that also came installed ( from HP).
When I go to for example, www.brahmas.com (which is the local hockey team’s site in my area) on my work computer (an XP), I notice in the add-ons in my web browser (IE7) the following item (brahmas.com is a safe site if anyone wants to try it and see what add-on you might have )
AUDIO_MP3 Publisher Microsoft Active X control wmp.dll
On my home computer (vista) I see the following ad on in the manage add-on tool function
jp2ssv.dll also an active X control (that I think is part of realplayer program)
so my questions-
1.So when one goes to a website like yahoo.com, you tube or nhl.com and looks at video or listens to audio, does the video or audio from that site use the media player on the PC?
2.How does it know which one to use if one has two or more media player programs?
3. If for some reason a site was compromised and there was some maliciousness injected into the video or audio, would Norton (NAV2008) stop it from downloading onto my computer?
4. Even if the issue is a fault of the media player program (does not compensate for the vulnerabilities of other programs like real player or winndows medi player?)?
