Here's the deal, I have Norton ANtivirus 2008 and I can't seem to get it to work properly on my computer. Whenever I try to install it, it gets to the very end then my computer all of a sudden freezes up, forcing me to do a hard reboot. When the computer starts back up one of two things happen: 1. Norton appears in my system tray (even though my computer froze during the installation process) but says its not configured (When I try to, nothing happens and the self-help tips did not work for me) or 2: Norton appears in my system tray (again, even though my computer froze during the installation) and automatically tries to configure itself, fails to do so, and tries to open up the help and support window (which ends up being nothing but a blank, white screen). To rectify this I've tried the following:
1. Using the Norton removal tool and reinstalling( in which case, the above happens all over again)
2. Running the Autofix tool (which didn't work)
3. Downloading the latest version of Norton Antivirus 2008 (which was what I was trying to install) and running that (again, the above happens all over again).
(From all the tips I've tried it seems that) I've tried every method I know and have found with the exception of contacting support. But if I couldn't get Norton to work, what could they do different that I haven't tried?
It should be noted that my computer is comprised of the following:
Windows XP Professional SP3 version 2002 with a Mobile Intel Celeron Processor loaded with 1.50 GHz of whatever and 256 MB of RAM. All of this on top on a Compaq EvoN1000v Laptop with a 20 gigabytes of hardrive space. (I know, its ancient and slow as hell but its all I got)
HELP ME PLEASE! I don't want my computer to be left defenseless! I've used Norton on my previous computer and it worked really well. I just want to be able to use it again.
PS: I've installed 2008 on my previous laptop and Norton Antivirus 2008 only protects 1 computer. Does that have something to do with my problem? I think not because the installation never pointed out that it'd been used already.
