@KarenGohSeow_Hui DO NOT enter card credentials until you have this removed. Please download and run Malwarebytes, run a full system scan. This is free to use in the interim. Please let us know what the scan results are so we can assist further.

Try activating Norton on a different device first, then use the key on your infected laptop. Or contact Norton support for help activating without a credit card.

You should not install Norton on an infected machine. Doing so might end up with a product that did not get fully/correctly installed. In that case you may not be fully protected and the initial infection may not be flagged by Norton.

Thanks for all the replies.

So, I managed to get rid of the malware with the help of AI. ….by manually erasing the things that lodged into the registry.

I just want to know if Norton can prevent this kind of things including data being stolen from the laptop ? what if we push something to github ? in between, can the data be stolen ?

Forgot to ask what version of Windows are you using? Microsoft Defender should have stopped that crapware from installing whether Norton was installed or not. One fails the other protects. But the other issue is the browser you use. Chrome and Edge are the two worse browsers out there, ad tracking is their game, it only takes one mistyped letter in a URL to redirect you to a website that is parked there just waiting to deliver malware. No clicks needed.

Your question is will Norton protect you. Yes. Can Norton have any control over what you click on when visiting a website? No, but they are trying extremely hard to achieve that with the way they are building their new products. In that sense data can always be taken due to user interactions with the internet. No antivirus will ever be 100%. Norton does do a great job coupled with user learning about their roles in protecting themselves. The two go hand in hand.
