Need to reinstall

I purchased a new  iMac and installed my v 11 antivirus, but cannot get the live update to download any of the virus info.

I keep getting an error message saying "Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect could not continue. Please run LiveUpdate or reinstall norton AntiVirus and restart. Code: 10)"

 I have reinstalled this thing twice and the same message appears. I cannot get rid of it after pressing the ok button on it.

Go to the "Apple" in the upper left hand corner, click it.  Go to "About This Mac", now go to the big "Mac OS X" and right under it, you'll have, a build number, serial number or version number. Put your cursor on that number and click it. until you get a version number. It should be either OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or OS X 10.7 (Lion), on a piece of paper write your version down. I want you to either use "Launchpad" or Macintosh HD/ Applications go to Utilities. Do you have a Java Preferences Folder? If you have it, open it and check both boxes. If you have this folder. it means you have OS X 10.6, or have intalled Java for OS X Lion.

Again, make sure those boxes are checked. Have you been using Mac before and keeping Time Machine, up to date on back ups? This just might help. Now, try everything.

The error 10 is most likely because the new machine boots into the 64 bit kernel by default.  Downloading Live Update 5.1.2 as suggested should make it capable of getting the latest version of NAV (11.1.2) which addresses this.  And as Grumpy48 points out, if you are running Lion and don't have Java yet, you need to get it for Live Update to work.

 

Let me know if that combination of updates still leaves you with issues.
