Network filters break Time Machine backups

Network filters break Time Machine backups

Time machine cannot run backups with network filters enabled. Works fine if I disable them ut it seems they are automatically reenabled and then time machine backups breaks again saying that the network disconnected which it didn’t.

Product & version number: Norton Version 24.9.0

OS details: MacOS Sequoia 15.0.1

What is the error message you are seeing? Time Machine could not complete backup because Network disconnected

Running Sonoma 14.6.1. Immediately after updating to Norton 24.9.0, I’m getting Time Machine can’t run because target is read-only. It’s not. Disk utility is saying the volume can’t be repaired. I think it’s a bogus error, because other Volumes on the SS drive are unaffected and this manifested immediately after update.

This was truly a really bad poor update. I can’t even run an ordinary SSH session without getting disconnected by either the transparent proxy or network filters. Turning them off solves all issues.

Anyone with expertise on repairing SSD would be greatly appreciated. DiskUtility won’t even mount my TimeMachine backup anymore. A 2nd SSD which I ‘excluded’ before it could be corrupted still works fine.
This penchant for pushing updates without notice is horrible customer I/F. AV updates are one thing, but EVERYTIME a major update was pushed, it either failed or adversely impacted my machine. Went back thru my digital history and in 2020, 2022, and now 2024, I have spent hours over several days trying to get my previously stable machine operable again after a Norton update. Just quit pretending to support the Mac community. It’d be a kindness.

Same issue here, since the 5th October, disabling the content filter works for a moment… until it gets enabled again and I cannot find any relevant settings for these issues in the app!

Sooo… I think there wasn’t any Norton360 update since my last post, but updating mac to Sequoia 15.1 fixed the Time Machine problem

Product & version number: Norton Version 24.9.2

Time Machine works now
