After digging around, I kind of see where they are showing basiCally same info. I do have an unknown device showing on the Security Map for the Win7 computer (ethernet connection thru a wireless router to network). Decice is shown as NAME "NEW"
Categort "ROUTER/SWITCH" Restricted. Under edit function shows mfd'd by Cisco/Linksys of which I have none.. I cannot find a listing for it;s displayed MAC addres (C1-C0-C1-86-3C-82) on my computer (ipconfig/all). Could this be some other adapter broadcasing near me?. if so, would I be able to see the MAC address?
Have you changed routers lately? It could be a remnant from an older unit that was connected to your system.
Try deleting the item from the Security Map by clicking on the [-] sign beside the Total in Network on the left of the page.
Then restart your system and refresh the Security Map.
If peterweb's suggestion does not correct the issue, please read on:
"edit function shows mfd'd by Cisco/Linksys" - that sounds like the device is a router.
A printer connected to Win7 via USB cable and shared over a network through that computer will not be displayed on the Norton Map.
Does this device also show up in your Windows 7 Network Map?
(Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > See full map)
Are you using 'WiFi Protected Setup' (WPS) in your router?
If you are using WPS, then you should be aware that WPS has serious security issues and 'WiFi Protected Setup' can cause 'mystery' devices to appear on your Windows 7 network map. In other words a neighbor's WPA router is probably what is showing in the Norton Security Map.
In thisthread, it is suggested that turning off the 'WiFi Protected Setup' will prevent the unknown devices from being recognized:
"If you turn off WiFi Protected Setup in your own router the unwanted Network Infrastructure devices should disappear. WiFi Protected Setup is a system to connect WiFi devices using PIN numbers. The router will pick up on other devices (routers, wifi printers) using WiFi Protected Setup and allow them to be visible as accessible network infrastructure on your LAN computers. If you don't need to use WPS yourself you can disable it and get rid of the annoying entries in Network."
If this does prove to be the issue, I strongly suggest manually setting up WPA2 encryption instead of using the WPS quick set up method.
Let us know if any of this information addresses your issue.
Got your response, Thanks. The device does NOT show up on my Win7 Network -only on the Norton Map My Netgear router has WPA/ WPA2 personal security set.
I have not changed routers, I have been using this router for over a year. My Win7 dsktop is new Ocr-12), but I have only recently started (10 days?) seeing this device. Thanks

That's good to hear, but have you confirmed that WPS is disabled?

Did you try removing the device from the Network Security Map? Then reboot and see if it shows up again.
