New computer - Uninstalling other security / Installing Norton

I purchased a new Windows 11 computer that came with McAfee security preinstalled. I have not turned on the computer yet. I want to add it onto my Norton subscription.

Once the computer is turned on and finished its initial setup, I want to get Norton up and running. My very basic question–should McAfee be uninstalled before I install Norton, or after? I wish to limit the time the computer would be unprotected.

You should remove the McAfee software first and then restart your machine. Windows security will take over.

Then install Norton and do a restart for good measure and off you go.
