Cute, I think.
That feature will come in handy during the beta testing.
Another new feature is that the email notification that you get when you receive a Private Message now includes the Sender's Name and the Subject of the PM. Another handy feature!
I agree! The PM changes are a great step forward for the Norton Community.

Hi,
Great! I particularly appreciate that regarding Private Messages.
By the way, I have a question about PMs which may sound stupid to ask in a Security Product Forum, however I don't know the answer... Here it is:
Are PMs "travelling" within Norton Forums, scanned for any threats before being delivered to the User Inbox ?
Of course, I am not referrring to PMs coming from Norton Community Team Members, who - with the new feature - will be immediately recognizable.
Does anyone know ?
Thanks.
Hi,
If the intra-network traffic on the norton servers isn't being monitored for all sorts of possibilities I'd be very surprised. I can't think of a bigger boast than to have been able to PM a staff member and trash the network.
[not that I would ever consider such an action]
Hi Dick,
Thanks for replying. I probably didn’t explain myself well.
Since the new feature mentioned in elsewhere’s post will enable the Recipient (User) to immediately recognize the Sender (either User or Staff Member), it goes without saying that if the Private Message were from a Staff Member, one would open it without a second thought.
My question “Are PMs "travelling" within Norton Forums, scanned for any threats before being delivered to the User Inbox ?” only concerned PMs received from Users, as I believe that in this case one would instead think at least twice before opening it, unless he/she is sure it has been checked/scanned, exactly.
Regards.
Hi,
We don't actually receive the PM, just a notice from the Norton Community similar to email subscriptions you might receive if you subscribe to posts. You still have to login here to read the PM
Cheers,
Dave

Hi,
Sounds like I didn't explain myself clearly either.
It is my understanding that all traffic on the Norton servers is being monitored/scanned at all times for as many threats as they are aware of.
The email notification you receive of a PM is generated by a Norton server and sent out over their network to the Internet. It is clean when it leaves and that's all they can promise.
When you log in to get your messages I'm assuming that you are doing so with a clean machine. The interaction between your machine and Norton is then being monitored/scanned at both ends.
Can something bad happen, of course. Is it likely, no.
Hope this helps
I don't think there is any essential difference between a private message and a posting on one of the forums, other than one is private and the other is public. Both are composed in HTML and viewed with a browser. Like most websites that allow user input, the Norton Community has measures in place to prevent the injection of malicious content into anything that is posted. You needn't take any more precautions when viewing a PM than you would when viewing the public forum pages. Basically, in either case, you just need to follow best practices for any online activity - secure your browser as much as possible and don't click on anything that looks suspicious.
Hi everyone,
Thank you very much for your exhaustive replies - I feel better now!
Yup - new and try it - you might like it!
I wonder if I put a question in I will be asking myself??
