I'm Snowbunnie and I have just recently joined the Norton Forums.
So far, I understand a small bit of what occurs here but don't seem to have all the answers I was looking for after reading the Help link. 
So far, a few I have are:
What are moderators?
How moderators different from Admins?
How are people chosen to become moderators ( if Admins recruit regular users)?
What abilities do moderators have on the forums?
Besides these questions, I think I understand a bit more than when I started.

Here's a partial answer to your questions. It is a generalization and like all generalizations, including this one, it is not completely correct. But it is close enough ....
Moderators and Administrators are employees; as are others with their names in red and labeled Symantec Employee.
You may notice other labels on people who post here, like "guru", but I won't attempt to clarify those since I gather they are under review.
