Hello
Not really a forum guy but what i have just been through over the last two days deserves to be reported.
I run Norton Internet Security on my Dell Inspiron 530S.
Two days ago while i was working on my PC, i noticed a Norton icon in my sys tray asking to restart my computer to finish the installation of an update. I had not run Live Update. I restarted my PC and my NIS icon changed from the normal square with green check mark to a circle with a check mark. When i opened Norton, it said my trial period had run out and i needed to activate my product! (I bought a full years subscription) I went ahead and activated it then my machine became incredibly slow, bordering on non responsive! Over the next two days it became unusable, freezing when it wanted, so i uninstalled Norton then reinstalled it but it was exactly the same. Sometimes my sys tray icon would be showing a red x and other times it showed a green check mark? It kept asking me to activate product even though i had and still had 54 days left on my license. My PC would not run so i had to restart it in safe mode, uninstall Norton Internet Security, then go into the registry and manually delete all Symantec/Norton entries just to get my PC back to operating normally, which it is now. This has taken me the last two days, i have not installed Norton again.
Could somebody from Symantec please explain to me why i got a product update without running live update and why did it mess my machine up so bad??? I now run a free anti virus product because i have no intention of reinstalling Norton for it to mess up my machine unless somebody from Symantec has an explanation???
