Tried using a rule to allow full net access to “C:\Windows\System32\WUDFHost.exe” — which is what Miracast evidently uses to cast - and it still does not work.
Same here, very frustrating; spent some time with chat-support, so far no luck fixing this either. Surely someone at Norton in the QA department should add this to the test plans, and Engineering/Support should prioritize a public response/fix!
As a teacher, I use Miracast extensively in the classroom, casting from my 2-in-1 laptop (Windows 11) to a Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter that’s connected to an Epson projector. Yesterday, Miracast stopped working. At first I thought it might be the adapter, but as OP mentioned, disabling Norton allowed Miracast to work normally. I changed the Firewall setting from “Smart Firewall” to “Ask” thinking that it would ask me to approve the Miracast request, but the firewall didn’t raise a notification and continued to block it. After some further research online, I found it may due to Norton having stricter rules for “Public” vs. “Private” networks. I also saw it mentioned that the profiles Norton defines for “Public” and “Private” networks override individual firewall rules in the interest of security (which is why allowing full net access to “C:\Windows\System32\WUDFHost.exe" which is what Miracast uses may not be working). I’m going to open a support ticket with Norton and I encourage anyone else with this issue to do the same to raise it’s priority.
Nearly a month later and the problem persists. Quite frankly I became busy with other things and have resigned to it just not working - until I purchase a different AV/Firewall product when my current subscription expires…(Miracast stopped working not long after renewing the product for $130 for another year - also irritating) Miracast aside, I haven’t enjoyed the experience of the “new” Norton so far. The inability to change firewall rules with relative ease sucks. Not a fan of the re-do.
True- If I turn off Norton Auto-Protect and Firewall, I can wirelessly display from my Windows 11 devices. I’ve tried going into Settings, App Permissions and “Allowing” the following:
Miracast Input Manager; Miracast Receiver API, Miracast Receiver Extension; Wireless Display; and Wireless Adapter. Even after allowing all of these, I’m still blocked from projecting my Windows 11 devices (Thinkpad; Surface Pro) to my Samsung TV. Weirdly, a Windows 10 Thinkpad can connect to the TV. Any troubleshooting advice will be helpful. I will also open a Norton ticket.
