Win XP SP2, 1GB RAM
I am having a very hard time with the installation of NIS 2010. NAV 2006 was installed prior to my first attempt at installing NIS 2010. The NIS 2010 install failed "Install did not finish. A cleanup was performed on your computer to complete the installation. Click restart now and try again."
After checking this type of message online I downloaded the Norton Removal tool for NAV 2006 and fo NIS 2010. I ran the NAV 2006 RT 2 times after running the uninstaller from Add\Remove Programs. I then ran the Norton RT for NIS 2010 twice.
I then tried running the NIS 2010 install again but this time the system rebooted in the middle of the install. This reboot cycle continued until I booted into Safe Mode. Ran removal tools in safe mode for both Norton products. Rebooted system and tried the NIS 2010 install but the system again rebooted during install. I then tried the Norton Power Eraser.
First attempt I tried to use the rootkit reboot but the Eraser just hung with the Rebooting screen showing (no disk I\O). I hard rebooted and tried again ad it continues to hang. I don't know what to try at this point. I've tried scanning the drive as a slave on my other PC than has NIS 2010 and it found no threats. I've run CHKDSK /R to verify stable file system after so many hard boots.
