NIS 09 Auto Liveupdate does not work

My newly purchased NIS 09 works fine and the resource occupation decreases sharply compared with NIS 08. But one thing that annoys me is that the auto liveupdate does not work, no matter how I try to turn it off and on again or disable/enable pulse update. I am using Windows XP SP3 with NIS 09, with no other security software installed.

Nope. But it won’t work anyway. Auto liveupdate does not work whether I turned on both options or not. I have to manually liveupdate otherwise no update is received.

Delete all Symantec Related Files:

  1.  All Users/Symantec Temp. Files
  2.  All Users/Symantec
  3.  All Users/Norton
  4.  All Users/Norton Installer
  5. start>run>regedit>HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>delete "Norton" and "Symantec"
  6. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>delete "Norton" and "Symantec"

Repeat steps 1-4 for all users on your computer. For Steps 5-6, make sure that you are on your local administrator account. Then:

  1.  Run Norton Removal Tool.
  2.  Boot in Safe Mode and run the Norton Removal Tool, again
  3.  Install NIS09.
  1.  Run Norton Removal Tool.
  2.  Boot in Safe Mode and run the Norton Removal Tool, again

I don't get it.  If you're going to runt NRT in Safe Mode, what possible reason would there be for running it in Regular Mode?

Thanks for the help. But it just won't work.

In fact before the first installation of NIS 09 I have already run the removal tool to remove NIS 08.

Since Windows only Loads Up Critical components, then it could miss Files in Safe Mode that will be Detected and Removed in Normal Mode.

I assume that running liveupdate “manually” works?

If so, you are encountering a known bug in the software. They are working on a fix for this. It should be available in the not to distant future from what I understand. I have the same problem. Reinstalling, etc will not help at all if it is indeed the same issue.

Ok I will update my definitions.

Exactly as you put. It works by manually launching only. Now I assume I am trapped in the right bug.

Yes, it's a bit of nuisance to keep having to update manually. But luckily it doesn't take long at all. The Norton technicians have identified the problem and it will be fixed. So for the time being we just have to be a little patient till they release the fix.

Other than this problem, I've been extremely happy with NIS2009.

But, but ....

NRT is removing files, components.  The only thing going on with processes is that NRT stops them to allow the file removals.  It really shouldn't make any difference whether or not it is run in either mode, but I will grant you that there are programs that can't seem to stop their own processes (hence, the reboot requirement) and that Safe Mode will (very occasionally) help get around that.  So, if you insist on running NRT and you insist on Safe Mode, there is nothing that is gained from Normal Mode.
